GOP Front-Runner Trump Unpopular Even Among White Men

A Washington Post/ABC News poll this month finds that while Democratic-leaning groups like minorities and young people deeply dislike the billionaire businessman, his favorability poll numbers are underwater among voters that make up the Republican base.

The poll finds 67 percent of overall voters surveyed have an unfavorable opinion of Trump, compared to just 30 percent who say they have a favorable impression of the billionaire businessman.

Roughly similar numbers of independent voters and white women voters, dislike Trump, both groups that went for Mitt Romney over President Barack Obama in 2012...

But the shock is in just how many Republican-leaning groups, while not having an overwhelmingly negative impression of Trump, still dislike him on balance.

More than half of voters who consider themselves conservatives – 53 percent – view Trump negatively, while just 44 percent see him favorably...

Trump is upside down on White Men, 47 to 51.

He is also, of course, massively unpopular with the general population:

And locks Hispanics into the Democrat party as solidly as African Americans already are, guaranteeing that the GOP loses national elections for a generation:

Well done, Trump supporters. You took the most winnable election for the GOP since 1984, and you managed to find the one moron who could possibly destroy it.

Are we pretending that the massively hyperbolic rhetoric against every single thing Obama did, said, thought and didn't do has nothing to do with a large segment of Republican voters turning to populist extremism?

If your country were truly being run into the ground as horrendously and completely as many conservative posters suggest, and the party which controlled the White House for something like 20 of the past 28 years (and a Congressional majority for much of that time?) has been so utterly ineffective in stopping this tragedy, what on earth are the faithful supposed to do? Keep voting for the same apparently utterly useless 'establishment' politicians in the hopes that the next four years will finally change things?

As an aside, I wonder whether Cruz's popularity would be any better than Trump's if he were the front-runner? (Not even sure whether it's better now, to be honest?)

And that in spite of the Democrats trying to do the same.

Extremist what? Donald Trump is the most economically liberal, pro-big-government GOP front-runner since Nixon.

lol 20 of the past 36. I maths good! Though I guess that doesn't sound so impressive

Notions like building a wall along the Mexican border and banning all Muslim immigration are pretty extreme: The fact that Trump isn't the only one to advocate such ideas doesn't make them any less so.

And while it's not extreme (but arguably is populist), from what little I've seen Trump advocates a lot less US international military involvement, quite possibly making him on balance a smaller-government fellow than Reagan or Bush II.

Building a wall is not extreme - it is, in fact, currently US Law, passed bipartisanly. Banning all Muslim immigrants is extreme, but also Unconstitutional. It's opposed by both Liberals and Conservatives. It's mostly extreme water-cooler-ism.

Trump is a consistent supporter of keeping our current social welfare structure (which is the majority of our spending), and dramatically expanding it. He's also a fan of weakening First Amendment rights, dramatically expanding the police forces, dramatically expanding the scope (as well as the size) of internal police forces, and claims he wants to increase defense spending. He is in no way a "smaller" government guy.

Wait, he actually has a platform??

Wait, he actually has a platform??

Sorta. It's difficult to tease out, because he changes his mind a lot. The consistent bits, however, are:

1. A Wall
2. Giving the Executive Branch the power to round up and forcibly deport millions of American citizens at will
3. Expanding the federal role in healthcare
4. Weakening First Amendment protections for those who write mean things about Donald Trump
5. Expanding the ability of the President to pick winners and losers in the marketplace
6. Giving the President the ability to punish private companies; not because they do things that are illegal, but simply because they do things he doesn't like
7. Everyone else is stupid, only Donald Trump is awesome.

Fair enough I guess, but while being 'small government' obviously wasn't something that I originally said of Trump, you're certainly doing a much better job of showing him to be an extremist than I could! I don't think his populism is in dispute either, and it's centered mainly around A) being very overtly and explicitly not like the idiots who failed so miserably to stop the Democrats 'destroying the country' and B) radically addressing some of the 'problems' raised in conservative rhetoric such as illegal immigration and the problem of Islam which the Muslim in the White House just keeps on making worse and worse :lamo

#2, #4, #5, and #6 are especially troubling.

No, you are pretending that that leftist talking point is anything more than crap. Sanders has virtually the same message. Is he the result of 'massively hyperbolic' leftist rhetoric? Please. You liberals really need to think for yourselves for once and not just repeat everything you hear some boob on MSNBC cough up.

Only the first one is reasonable, the rest is madness.

Madness?

No, giving the Executive Branch the power to round up and forcibly deport American citizens at will and en masse is not reasonable.

Mea Culpa - I thought you were referring to the first item on his list of #'s 2, 4, 5, and 6.

Trump's candidacy is like watching the GOP play an alternate version of Russian roulette in which the gun has five bullets and one empty chamber.

and the democrats controlled both houses and the white house for two yrs and ------------------------- pox on both parties.

run don run

Building a wall the entire length of the border would be a ludicrously expensive proposition.

Trump's platform....

Anti-immigration.
Anti-trade.
Anti-NATO
Anti-abortion
Anti-civil rights
Anti-healthcare
Anti-education
Anti-gun control
Anti-free speech
Anti-Muslim
Anti-Hispanic
Anti-Chinese
Anti-veterans
Anti-women
Anti-gay
Pro-war
Pro-Putin
Pro-white

Trump embodies all the conservative values and is the perfect candidate for the "Party of No"...return.

Not really. Building and maintaining a fully manned wall supported by sensors would become expensive over time. But building a wall, not so much.

Oh Christ does that hurt.

I'd be in heaven with a Nixon 2016 replacement.
