I guess whatever happens in Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas after all.
 
Why would any organization who is international have a convention in the US where their members would be subject to harassment upon entry?
 
The rest of the world is watching what is happening in this country. Why would they risk vacationing in a police state when they could visit countries that actually respect human rights?

That same consideration will be in decisions around which World Cup games to attend.
 
We had a similar experience in Michigan: we had the opportunity to visit there this summer for a week of vacation. What a fun place- would strongly recommend! (disclaimer: I am not being paid by the Michigan Board of Tourism)

We ended up going to Detroit and seeing the Henry Ford Museum of Automotive History and touring the Ford plant there, Greek town in Detroit was great- and the food was to die for! We headed to Ann Arbor to hear a musical performance at Hill Auditorium (one of the few acoustically most perfect auditoriums in the world)- and visit the museums and campus of the University of Michigan. We went to Lansing, the capitol, and to Grand Rapids (where we ate the 76th Street Truck Stop- one of the top 10 delis in the country). Then off to Holland, Michigan (where they have a Dutch village, dancing, and the world's largest annual tulip festival outside of the Netherlands), Frankenmuth, a German village (it feels like you have gone to Heidelberg)- then to the upper Peninsula of Michigan, and a ferry ride to Mackinac Island situated between the two peninsulas- where the year is always 1887, where the grand hotel was built there- and famous for its fudge, etc, etc...

And the whole time, hotels were dirt cheap. I couldn't believe it. I looked into why, and it turns out that a lot of Michigan tourism was from Canada- and now the Canadians are boycotting them.

It's not just Vegas. The world doesn't want to tour a $hithole lawless bully country.

Going to be interesting to watch whether the trend of reducing tourism continues into a long term change as tourists discover other alternatives, or whether this is short term reaction to Trumps policies and actions. World cup will probably be a bit of a referendum on how much Trump has damaged Americas reputation and desirability as a tourist destination? Vegas issues right now are likely a reflection on his international visitors see the US, and the economic uncertainty that Trump has created making businesses and families think more carefully about their discretionary spend. The local visitor impact will wear off pretty fast once the economy starts to become more positive again, but the international visitors might take a lot longer to return. That's a lot of international funds not flowing into the US.
