Young voters turned out to vote in higher numbers and favored Democrats by a wide margin, according to exit polls, providing a major boost to Democratic candidates in yesterday’s House and Senate elections. The 2006 turnout increase follows on the unprecedented 2004 youth turnout and provides further evidence that the new generation coming of age today is more engaged than young voters in recent decades.

weeks before the elction .

I think this age group willl continue to heavily support the Democrtic Party.

13 Million young voters are without health insurance primarily because more and more employers are hiring Part-Time workers to avoid benefits and or out -sourcing.

This genertion is generally more tolerant of gayness while many politicians are writing legal discrimination in our Constitution. It's ironic, we are fighting and dying for Demcracy abroad while our country is ignoring our civil rights.

Very interesting! Hi Justagurl!

Young people taking an interest in the democratic process is always a good thing.

Man i think its great that i'm 16 now, i'll be 18 just in time for presidential elections. I can't wait.......to throw away my vote to a minor party haha

IAmMrTea08, its not a throw away vote if you truly belive in the cause of the party. its only a throw away vote if you dont agree with what you are voting for. i think its good more people voted. and seeing that the democrats won, maybe this will entice more people to vote on a regular basis.

He did not reply to your quote.

(Do you mean the GOP? )

So let me respond.

The GOP will hopefully be pursuaded that running the party by Neo-Conservatives will in the future not be as wise as they once considered it to be.

Hopefully this will permit the much broader based Republican supporter to have their voice heard.

In addition it may well serve as a salutary lesson that in order to maintain even a pretence of Democracy within the US establishment, it is essential that the views of many are considered rather than the elitist views of the few of either left or right.

With a modicum of common sense and a return to the values on which this party was founded we may look forward to a more successful election in the future.
