lachish letters-an evidence of the historicity of the scriptures (1 Viewer)

Even more importantly they support the Book of Mormon:

"In 1935, some of the most important documents ever found relevant to Old Testament history were discovered. They are also star witnesses for the authenticity of the Book of Mormon" http://www.jefflindsay.com/bme5.shtml

That they do my friend. Thanks for the links :2wave:.

OK...a hard read, but...what's your point?

These are nothing new.

The letters were discovered more then 70 years ago and have about as much weight against/for Christianity as the Gnostic gospels have.

Just that the Lachish letters is probably the most powerful piece of secular evidence that supports the notion that the Old Testament is good history(not proof that it is divine, except that the prophets have been proven to be correct in warning that Jerusalem was going to be destroyed shortly.) The implications in regards to the BOM go beyond just evidence to the text being historical as it would also be great evidence to the divinity of both sets of scriptures.

Do the gnostic gospels have any less weight then Matthew, Mark, Luke or John?

According to the Catholic church they are hersey and should be not be used as any kind of religious refrence. So ya they have a little less weight.

You can find out how "terrible" the gospels are here: http://www.catholicexchange.com/vm/index.asp?art_id=25812

Keep in mind they make high generalizations and really are just there to debunk gnosticism to those that are uneducated in the matter.

Well what the Vatican says in matters of what are true gospels usually trickles down to all forms of Christianity. The Vatican is the highest church of Christianity. You of course are free to accept any gospels you want no matter of your religion (Catholic or not).

I personally believe I can make my own educated decisions on religious matters. I do not believe a diplomatically elected individual (the pope) and the other officials of the Vatican are any closer to god than I am. If anything they are most likely further from god and closer to their bank accounts.

I do not need anyone to tell what I should believe and what I should not.
