Former secretary of state Henry Kissinger jeopardized US efforts to stop mass killings by Argentina’s 1976-83 military dictatorship by congratulating the country’s military leaders for “wiping out” terrorism, according to a large trove of newly declassified state department files.
The documents
, which were released on Monday night, show how Kissinger’s close relationship to Argentina’s military rulers hindered Jimmy Carter’s carrot-and-stick attempts to influence the regime during his 1977-81 presidency.

The newly declassifed cables show how Kissinger lauded Videla and other officials for their methods during his 1978 visit. “His praise for the Argentine government in its campaign against terrorism was the music the Argentine government was longing to hear,” says one of the documents.

What a scumbag. I will never understand why so many people uphold Kissinger.

Who the hell upholds Kissinger?

He's universally seen as a monster on the left, right, and all in between. Unless you mean in our recognition that he is very capable and extremely skilled in his line of work? Like him or not, that's what he is.

Kissinger is a total creature, he launched secret bombing raids into Cambodia that killed tens of thousands without even informing Congress. If there was truly any justice in the world he would be in prison for war crimes.

I do believe that history is going to largely vindicate Christopher Hitchens on this score.

In general terms, for the same reasons they uphold Hillary, Bush, Rumsfeld, Powell, Obama and a very long list of others--they are part of the elite establishment that controls this government.

What? We were in the thralls of a deadly war. The collateral damage of stabilising a battlefield seems quite okay. Better certainly to risking the Gullag Empire overcoming. This socialist muck is really too much.

And this is from someone that thinks Kissinger probably erred in his handling of the Vietnam war and China. But his dissertation and other writings were wonderful.

He was a very good SoS and a better scholar. He wrote wonderfully.
But he might have made a miscalculation in opening to China and possibly in the case of Hanoi .

It's people like him who make me sometimes wish that there really is a Hell....

I hate to bring up that Henry Kissinger was a Jew and so is Bernie Sanders.

Some people think it would be great idea to have Jew President across the 2020-2026 Convergence while others think it would be the devil.

Do you think that ignorance of this characteristic had anything to do with his loosing?

We should have debated, what us the impact of Jew President on Arab States, how does this affect Israel, how do I feel about Jew President, do I have any racist programming?

This was one of many things that was not covered well by the Sanders Campaign telling me that they're all a bunch of meatheads so I stuck to my affirmative action choosing meathead Hillary Clinton.

Working with China was a great move.

Still a c*nt though.

As Democrats say about Benghazi, that's old news.

Yeah, I don't really see the point in dwelling on old man Kissinger at this point.

Yeah, I don't really see the point in dwelling on old man Kissinger at this point.

I do understand the argument for doing so, but am not persuaded that the net effect is positive for us.

Well he has appeared on the Gallup's most Admired Men and Women list 11 times....

Re: Kissinger hindered US effort to end mass killings in Argentina, according to file

The more killings in Argentina means the higher chance that more Nazis will be killed.

Re: Kissinger hindered US effort to end mass killings in Argentina, according to file

My question still stands. 1998 was nearly two decades ago, let it go.

How is Nixon there?

Without Watergate, Nixon would have most likely ended up being the one of the most admired Presidents ever (top 5 for sure). People get so hung up on 20/20 hindsight and focusing on finding everything bad and ignoring the good, that just mentioning his name makes people angry. But when you look at what he did, how popular he was across the political spectrum and how well he worked with both sides of the aisle, if you leave out Watergate, it's hard to put Nixon anywhere but near the top of a list of the best Presidents. Now I fully expect someone to respond with a list of what he did wrong, but that's just the hate coming out.

Yes, but Watergate still stands and yet he's still that well liked?

Watergate is a real biggie and the legacy of his treachery still lives on today.

They weren't killing Nazis.

Think other side of the political spectrum

What the hell is this?

My monkey came up with this typing at random, no, ah, I do not know what you mean, what the Hell is this?" I'd have to laugh and I really like your style, but I don't know what you mean? Tell me what you don't know about it.

First of all, it's totally racist and imperfect.

Something I surly want to delete, at least the last paragraph,

I was just bragging, see where Trump gets it from, but I only give him little bit and now it's all taken away for the election.

He should have just ran a nice campaign and not gone about saying crooked Hillary like a mad man and becoming that.

Re: Kissinger hindered US effort to end mass killings in Argentina, according to file

An indicator of Kissinger's status within the powers that be was his appointment by Bush to head the 911 Commission.

Fortunately, "the Jersey Girls" put an end to that. Their success made no difference in the end, but it was revealing nonetheless.
