There was no sign of Kim Jong Il at a closely watched parade Tuesday marking the 60th anniversary of North Korea's founding, and Western officials said the dictator - who has not appeared publicly for a month - may be gravely ill.

"There is reason to believe Kim Jong Il has suffered a serious health setback, possibly a stroke," the official said.

This could end up being extremely beneficial or extremely dangerous to the rest of the world. North Korea is ruled by a cult-personality, and if its leader ends up dead, it could collapse the entire regime. Its possible that less totalitarian and militaristic groups might end up in power. However, a power vacuum leading to civil war could be a disaster. North Korea has plenty of WMDs in their country, and instability could lead to them being distributed outside the country or even used.

Just another cheap, vicious rumor from the right attacking a hero of the left.

They should be ashamed, strokes aren't something to joke about.

South Korea says Kim is on the road to recovery

SEOUL, South Korea - North Korea's Kim Jong Il is on the road to recovery from a stroke and still in control of his isolated country's communist regime, South Korea suggested Wednesday, disputing reports that the leader is gravely ill.

President Lee Myung-bak convened a meeting of top security ministers, who were briefed on intelligence that indicates Kim was recovering, said Lee Dong-kwan, the president's chief spokesman.

The North Korean leader was currently "not seen to be in a serious condition," the spokesman said in a statement after the meeting late Wednesday, citing the contents of the briefing.

Earlier, South Korea's spy agency told a closed door meeting of lawmakers it had intelligence showing the 66-year-old Kim's condition had much improved, an agency official said on condition of anonymity, citing official policy.

My fear is this loon will have his quivering finger on the red button, and his brain will be more stupid than it was before.

Someone of his status would have it hooked up directly to a remote pulse meter.
