Well this is interesting. Kim Davis met the Pope. I am not religious. I think the Pope is a pain in the ass and should stick to religion and stay out of economics and science because he has no background other than taking a chemistry class decades ago.

It's interesting to me because the left extols his virtue when he speaks in favor of global warming and socialism. I'm wondering how they feel about him telling her to stay strong.

“The Pope spoke in English,” [Davis] told me. “There was no interpreter. ‘Thank you for your courage,’ Pope Francis said to me. I said, ‘Thank you, Holy Father.’ I had asked a monsignor earlier what was the proper way to greet the Pope, and whether it would be appropriate for me to embrace him, and I had been told it would be okay to hug him. So I hugged him, and he hugged me back. It was an extraordinary moment. ‘Stay strong,’ he said to me. Then he gave me a rosary as a gift, and he gave one also to my husband, Joe. I broke into tears. I was deeply moved…

Vatican sources have confirmed to me that this meeting did occur; the occurrence of this meeting is not in doubt.

What I find more interesting is the likely fallout if the Pope for whatever reason refused to met with Kim Davis. Regardless of your position on Kim Davis' actions or arguably the Supreme Court decision that made her story even possible, there is no real reason for the Pope to exclude himself just because. The Pope is going to met with people that claim some level of faith, and there is no real reason for us to prevent that.

Appreciate who this is coming from, someone not of any faith.

The Pope has the same freedom of speech that others in the USA have. He can talk with whoever he wants to talk with.

The question is not that the Pope met Davis, apparently he did. The question is why. In addition, while Davis is not meeting the letter of the law, how flexible might she be after the Pope supported her in her struggle.

From the Department of Redundancy Department. Of coarse the Pope is free to speak to whomever he chooses. That's not the issue.

He apparently gave her a rosary, a hug, and told her to keep strong. He also answered a reporter's question and said that even government employees should have religious freedom (something to that effect).

I think he made her stronger in her resolve. He basically told a government employee it was okay not to do her job. That's what Huckabee did, and he's getting **** flung at him for it.

The Pope met with Davis for the same reason he met with the Little Sisters of the Poor. Both are fighting the government over religious liberties/freedom. Neither one of these visits got much coverage in the news. Not compared to the Pope's views on wealth redistribution and climate change.

What is the issue, from your point of view?

Honestly, I like to see liberals who thought the Pope was infallible about global warming brag and then squirm when he supports a woman who went to jail because she thought gay marriage was a sin. I try to be consistent in my beliefs and situational ethics bugs me.

I respect the Pope. I don't believe he is a liberal or conservative. He is a christian leader trying to do what he believes is right. I may not agree with Kim Davis' actions, but I respect the pope in supporting her. He has his reasons.

I am not sure why Davis was introduced to the pope. I thought she was born again christian, not Catholic...... it seems the OP wants the pope to stay out of politics, but Davis may have only met him because of her political activism.

I don't really care about the Pope. He's consistent in his ideology, unlike some of his admirers.

This is another story from the file

Do stupid, get stuff.

Pope Francis Rejects Kim Davis’s Account Of Meeting And Refuses To Endorse Her Bigotry

The Pope briefly met Kim Davis as part of a group, had no idea who she was, said hello to her, and moved on.

The Vatican’s version of events is the opposite of what Davis’s supporters are claiming happened. The anti-gay marriage crowd claimed that the Pope met with Davis in secret and expressed his support for her bigotry. The right has been using the imaginary meeting as an endorsement of their out of step views.

The extremist conservative movement’s attempt to use Pope Francis for propaganda purposes has fallen apart. Davis’s invitation had been extended by Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, the envoy in Washington. Viganò is well known to have gone further than others in the church in his campaign against gay marriage. The Pope did not invite Davis to meet him. In fact, according to the Vatican, Pope Francis had not been briefed on the situation and knew nothing about Davis.

The fact that the Vatican took such pains to distance themselves from Davis could logically be viewed as a rejection of her beliefs.

In other words, another right-wing scheme has blown up in their faces.

Davis has this trait of interpreting things for her own agenda. Saying hello to someone in line is not the same as a private meeting. Please.

Hater's gonna hate.

Before he shook Davis's hand the Pope met with a gay couple. Chew on that one for a while.

"We don't see things as they are, we see things as we are." You are going to find what you are looking for, bud, whether it exists or not.

I don't care who the Pope meets. Fact is, I'm glad he's gone.
