BBC NEWS | World | Europe | KGB influence 'soars under Putin'
Most posters will not be remotely interested in this story or even bother to see it's implications.
A Russia that is in effect going to be run by the successor to the KGB, will be little different in it's aims than one that was run by the KGB.
True, Russians are able to have some more freedoms than under the USSR, but what will be the aims of the KGB?
Russia is already in the process of re-arming it's forces, it has arguably the best and largest Submarine fleet in the world, it is in the process of developing new Military Aircraft as well as continually testing it's nuclear deterrent rocketry.
Russia is well on it's way to being the No. 1 supplier of energy to the continent of Europe, this will give it enormous power to coerce European government to adjust their policy to favour Moscow.
You need to look and heed what Russia is doing with Ukraine, Georgia and any other country with whose foreign policy it (Russia) disagrees with.
Once western Europe is fully committed to depending on Russian gas supply's, Russia will start to impose political conditions on the continuance of supplies.
