Kerry says Israel-Palestine talks may resume

srael and Palestine could be ready to re-launch peace talks after a stalemate that has lasted almost three years, US Secretary of State John Kerry has said.
Speaking on Friday after days of meetings with both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Kerry said the groundwork had been laid for the resumption of talks.

"We have reached an agreement that establishes a basis for resuming direct final status negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis," he told reporters in Jordan.


Al Jazeera's Rosiland Jordan, reporting from Washington, said the fact Kerry had two meetings with Abbas, the second of which was not expected to take place, could indicate a change in policy had been agreed.

Probably just a lapse of memory, but Hamas who controls the Gaza strip has already condemned the talks. Don't think they are the right wing in Israel you referred to.

Just so others who read your biased statement understand. "a lot of" = 2, and those two do not object the resumption of negotiations, they might object to the outcome in the future but this remains to be seen. Netanyahu will have a majority in the Knesset in any way, if they object or not, its all up to him (and the Palestinians of course).

How obscenely typical of an anti-Israeli.

1) Kerry announces that Israel and Abbas are about to resume negotiations.
2) THE RULING BODY OF THE GAZA STRIP REJECTS THE NEGOTIATIONS AND DENIES ABBAS HAS THE AUTHORITY TO NEGOTIATE ON THE PALESTINIANS' BEHALF. (link)
3) One or two Israeli right wing parties (I know of one - "Habayit Hayehudi", Ido says two, and I tend to believe him, but either way the point stands) strongly objected to negotiating on the basis of the 67 lines.
4) When you need to give an example of what could **** up the talks, the one point which struck you as particularly poignant was not the fact that Hamas objects to the talks and denies Abbas's authority to negotiate on their behalf, but that a couple (pending resolution of this point) of Israeli parties objected to one of the preconditions.

What better way to show that the Palestinians are committed to the peaceful resolution of the I\P conflict and a lasting coexistence with Israel than demanding the release of a hundred convicted terrorist murderers as a precondition for the talks.
It just fills me with despair to think that the only chance of a lasting peace depends on members of a culture which idolizes murderers and worships terrorists.

Note that the last one refers to a terrorist who planned an attack which killed 15 Israeli civilians and wounded more than 60. Abbas said his was "a journey of struggle full of exceptional giving" and one of Abbas's representatives said that "his good and wonderful deeds for this nation... will always remain an example for us".

I mean, if the PA were even trying I'd be hopeful, but they just seem to go along with the Palestinian death culture instead of working to change it.

I hope I'm wrong, but I frankly don't expect much to come out of these talks. There is no credible leadership on the Palestinian side ready and able to do a realistic deal. And I frankly don't see a lot of enthusiasm on the Israeli side either. These talks seem to be mainly for the benefit of trying to lend some credibility to the Obama Administration's Middle East policy (or what passes fir such).

Let me just say that American intervention in the affairs of Israel and Palestine will be resisted by both parties and the result of these negotiations will seem like a solution at first but these dreams will disintegrate into reality.
