Kerry: ISIS targeting airports because it's "desperate"

The only thing that seems desperate is this administration and how it desperately is trying to mislead the public on the threat Extreme Islamic Terrorist pose to the world.

Kerry: ISIS targeting airports because it's "desperate" - CBS News

Kerry now says ISIS is desperate and they are non state violent actors.

What is the next term that will be used for terrorists?

The current administration knows they are just a few months away from retirement, so if things don't turn out as they predict, they can blame it on the next administration, or Congress, or both depending on which party is in control of those institutions.

This rings of "JV Team" and "it was because of a video" and other such comments that the brain trust in DC has come up with over the last 8 years.

I think they are targeting airports because of all the loooong lines of people waiting to go through security meanwhile completely vulnerable to a bomb.

Seems to me a target rich environment with easy access.

Ding, ding, ding... give the man his prize - exactly, and any halfway competent strategist could have predicted this would happen, oh wait, they did, that's why we have signs saying that you can't stop your car outside the terminal entrance, and other such precautions that were put in place because of this very threat. The fact that this was a target rich environment and that al Qaeda, and then later on ISIS, has had messages intercepted of plans for such an attack will not stop politicians from trying to downplay the reality. Heck al Qaeda hasn't given up on doing themselves, so ISIS isn't the only one we have to be concerned with doing such an act.

ISIS is expanding to Libya, eastern Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and other geographical areas... and their supposedly getting desperate because they've been kicked out of Fallujah and parts of Ramadi... again? It's not like this is the first time, and it's not like they can't retake either if they really want to.

We'll see.

That would make sense but that is not the official narrative the Obama administration wants to get across.

Well because of what this administration did when they took office, the next administration will have at least 6 years of blaming Obama for everything that goes wrong.

And, it doesn't matter which party they're from, the possibilities are still boundless for blaming Obama and his version of Karl Rove - Valerie Jarrett.

"Non state actor" is a term that has been around for a while because it lets you get around all sorts of pesky things like "human rights" and "torture laws."

It also lets you avoid calling them terrorists.

Kerry is a clown

The plain truth is...the terrorists are winning in a landslide.

Kerry and Obama know it, too.

Um, people have called them terrorists plenty.

We are not talking about people are we?

This thread is about what Kerry called them.

Ignoring the other partisan junk, calling targeting airports a sign of desperation seems pretty stupid to me. They target airports because the number of people generally around and their shortsightedness to anything else. Pretty sure most folks here could come up with dozens of potential easier targets that'd do as much damage but nah, airports man, airports.

We'll see.

They have lost approx 40% of their territory in Iraq. In Syria 20 %, losing ground. In Libya, same thing.
Will they still be around, after, yes.
And these figures are from Jan 16.

They had overreached and exceeded their logistical capabilities, so they fell back and regrouped around strongholds they can better defend. It's the same thing that happened to the US in the Pacific in the late 1930's and early 1940's that allowed the Japanese to run us out of Southeast Asia, the South Pacific, and the North Pacific. We fell back to Hawaii and resupplied and strengthened Midway to act as our early warning system and a force multiplier to Hawaii. Once we were able to regroup, repair, and resupply, we were able to take the fight back out into the Pacific. ISIS is doing the same in that large ocean of sand in Iraq and Syria. They're making some strategic mistakes though, like the one that's been on TV today where they ran down a highway in a large convoy that got waxed by aerial bombardment. Don't count them out.

They are far from out, but on their way to being decimated.

I truly hope you're correct - but I can't agree, just yet. Also, ISIS filled the void left by al Qaeda in Iraq and Syria, and by Gadhafi in Libya, and some group will be there to fill any void left by ISIS. It's already happening. Just like Russia and China have run into the Middle East to fill the void left by Obama pulling the US out.
