Our current governor has announced his candidacy for president and while I may be biased, I think he could be a good one. He has worked well with a Republican congress and initiated a pseudo-ephedrine policy that helped reduce meth trafficking in Iowa. That initiative has been recognized and somewhat adapted at the federal level.
Best of all, Hillary and Kerry both trail him!

KCCI Poll

Polling third in his home state is NOT an impressive showing...especially since Iowa is a no-win situation for Vilsack. Even if he pulled off a victory, it would be dismissed as a governor winning at home.

It's also not a bad showing, two years before the fact. And leading two major names whom the rep/cons would love to see run because of the baggage they carry. And trailing two other major names who have been on the national stage for some time. Vilsack has done a nice job running our state. Can Edwards say he did as much for his constituents? In another thread, people lamented Obama's lack of experience as a senator.
Vilsack has done a nice job getting his name out, and he is coming across as personable. The Colbert Report last week and scheduling an appearance on Leno in the next few weeks.

I disagree. Anything less than a first place showing, or at worst a close second, is a very bad sign for Vilsack.

I agree that it's significant that Hillary is so unpopular in Iowa, but I'm not sure that translates into more support for Vilsack. Kerry is a non-factor.

I would assume that Vilsack is at least as well-known to Iowans as Obama and Edwards are.

I don't have any problem with Vilsack; from the little I know about him, he sounds like he has indeed been a good governor. But that alone doesn't inspire me with much confidence in his candidacy.

The fact that he's from Iowa will hurt him, as other candidates will either A) skip the Iowa caucuses, rendering it meaningless and shifting the focus to Nevada and New Hampshire, or B) beat him or finish strongly in his home state.

Edwards was our darling in 2004. He is a helluva lot more photogenic than Vilsack. Obama is the current Democrat/lib rock star. I would venture that if Obama doesn't run, most of his vote will go to Vilsack.
And besides, this is just a poll. I'm one of those Democrat/libs who doesn't give them much credence. I just thought it was interesting.
I will caucus for Vilsack in Feb, 2008. May even pursue a delegate position!

Kerry is a non-factor.

I agree whole-heartedly. He shot his wad in 2004.

Yea, you're right, but like I say, those two have been in the spotlight for some time, Vilsack is just starting. And while the rep/cons find all sorts of stuff to throw at Edwards and Obama, they will be hard-pressed to do the same to Vilsack.

Just out of curiosity, do you have any idea how many people knew of Clinton outside of Arkansas in 1992? I don't rightly remember, but I don't remember caucusing for him.

Booo!!! Hisss!!!

Seriously, thank-you for at least taking the time to respond to my post.
