So apparently there was more than extra scrutiny going on.Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch today released a new batch of internal IRS documents revealing that former IRS official Lois Lerner communicated with the Department of Justice (DOJ) about whether it was possible to criminally prosecute certain tax-exempt entities. The documents were obtained as a result of an October 2013 Judicial Watch Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit filed against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) after the agency refused to respond to four FOIA requests dating back to May 2013.
The newly released IRS documents contain an email exchange between Lerner and Nikole C. Flax, then-Chief of Staff to then-Acting IRS Commissioner Steven T. Miller discussing plans to work with the DOJ to prosecute nonprofit groups that “lied” (Lerner’s quotation marks) about political activities.

yes they were doing their job which includes seeing if a group lied on their application which is a crime. In the non-right wing fantasy world of hate that is called doing their jobs.

•May 10, 2013: In an email to an aide responding to a request for information from a Washington Post reporter, Lerner admits that she “can’t confirm that there was anyone on the other side of the political spectrum” who had been targeted by the IRS. She then adds that “The one with the names used were only know [sic] because they have been very loud in the press.”

•May 15, 2013: In an email from an aide to Lerner, the aide specifically mentions “Tea Party Organizations, the “Tea Party movement,” and “Tea Party Patriots” as organizations targeted by the IRS.
The Judicial Watch FOIA requests came on the heels of an explosive May 14, 2013, Treasury Inspector General report revealing that the IRS had singled out groups with conservative-sounding terms such as “patriot” and “Tea Party” in their titles when applying for tax-exempt status. The IG probe determined that “Early in Calendar Year 2010, the IRS began using inappropriate criteria to identify organizations applying for tax-exempt status to (e.g., lists of past and future donors).” According to the report, the illegal IRS reviews continued for more than 18 months and “delayed processing of targeted groups’ applications” preparing for the 2012 presidential election.
Has it been revealed how many "Tea Party" applications the IRS received as opposed to how many "Occupy" or "left wing" applications? That's one thing I haven't seen in this fiasco yet.
The problem with the "this is no big deal" group on here is... this IS a big deal, and it's real.
Talk crap about Issa and all the rest if you wish. You can't deny the facts, and they're coming out more and more. The IRS, the DOJ, certain senior Democrats in Congress and potentially in the White House will eventually have to answer for this in court.
Just ask some of the Nixon Administration what happens when you ignore the law and use the power of the Federal Government as your personal political enforcer.

How many applicants applied that were liberal or conservative doesn't really matter. What matters is how many conservative groups were targetted vs how many liberal groups were targetted.
Sababa, do you really believe that this was just "due diligence?" There's nothing going on with this IRS affair, nothing at all that raises in your mind, suspicion?
This "scandal" started out as Obama have several meetings with someone from the IRS, inculding the Easter Egg hunt day, to plan and contorl the stomping out of conservative orgs seeking tax free status or at least the oppurtunity not to reveal their donors (should have a thread about that). Short answer, no I see no wide spread wrong doing. Nothing. Generally there needs to be a little evidence to keep a scandal alive for this long. If the RW would just have a little evidence for one of their mindless scandals before they go off the deep end...just once maybe people would take them a bit more seriously.
So lerner lied when she said the IRS was targeting conservative groups illegally?

I asked a simple question, was she lying? And there is no scandal, it's all just right wing racists making **** up to get stupid people riled up to enrich big wigs on the back of the working poor and chaining minorities into lifetimes of servitude!!!Is that your evidence of a scandal?

What "facts" exactly?
And in truth, Nixon never went this far off the reservation.
I have an issue with your belief though and not having to do with just Democrats. Politicians by nature will not go against their party leadership as doing so would mean an end to their political career. The only people who would do such a thing will be put out to pasture quickly and quietly regardless of party. Political parties used to have scruples, used to know the difference between right and wrong - however that is a rarity in modern times. Most want to make sure they are re-elected first, second that they stay in lock step with their leadership (so they can get re-elected) and third that they can make lots of money in a long career. When they must, they represent the people who voted them in. When they must, they claim they care about the little people, the poor, the farmers, the dock workers, the whatever. What they really care about are the lobbyists and PAC's who fund their campaigns, and what push button issue will see them re-elected with party leaderships help. Anyone who goes against party now, does so because they do not care about a political career so their influence by the nature of the political system, is minimal at best. No one cares about some 5th district Congressman who wants to do the right thing when an idiot in Florida grabs headlines proudly proclaiming the other side want you to die quickly. It's about sensationalism, outrageous behavior and statements, grabbing headlines and making money. This is why our systems is seen as so corrupt from the outside.I don't know how long that will last though. As more and more comes out, there are Democrats that I know are honorable people and they will surely turn on those that have lied to them as well by ensuring them that "there's nothing there to find, because 'we' didn't do what 'they' say we did." I know a few here in NC that will role over quick and kick their own party leadership right in the crotch when push comes shove and the illegal activity comes to true light.
They cannot bite the hand that feeds them.Their not stupid. Loyal to the party? Yes. Stupid? Not by a long shot.
True. And he had a Democrat House and Senate to face. At least Republicans in Congress agreed that what he did do was wrong.
The current climate in Congress is that the Democrats will defend their own regardless of what is found out.

So far, there's just enough doubt to keep them quiet. And, I mean quiet. Before the last few weeks when all this started coming to light, every Democrat was screaming that Issa was on a witch hunt. But now? Many are in the "no comment" mode. The next step is condemnation coming from within the Democrat party. And they know that if they don't, they will loose enough credibility back home with swing voters and moderate Democrats to loose their re-election.
Their not stupid. Loyal to the party? Yes. Stupid? Not by a long shot.
The circular firing squad is already getting in formation.

There are just too many strings in such activities for the offenders to keep up with. Sooner or later things unravel, and this IRS bit is true to form in that regard. A tipping point has been reached. It's obvious now that coordination was required here, and I believe that at some point that WH counsel fellow is going to be implicated now that the dominoes are starting to fall. I'm not a particularly big fan of Issa, but I sure wouldn't want him dogging me.
Ever hear of a guy named Thomas Bayes? How many applicants applied that were liberal or conservative doesn't really matter. What matters is how many conservative groups were targetted vs how many liberal groups were targetted.
