"There is a big difference between a state or locality saying they are not going to use their resources to enforce a federal law, as so-called sanctuary cities have done, and a state passing its own immigration policy that actively interferes with federal law," Tracy Schmaler, a spokeswoman for Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr., told The Washington Times. "That's what Arizona did in this case."

But the author of the 1996 federal law that requires states and localities to cooperate says the administration is misreading it, and says drawing a distinction between sanctuary cities and Arizona is "flimsy justification" for suing the state.

"For the Justice Department to suggest that they won't take action against those who passively violate the law --who fail to comply with the law -- is absurd," said Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas, the ranking Republican on the House Judiciary Committee and chief author of the 1996 immigration law. "Will they ignore individuals who fail to pay taxes? Will they ignore banking laws that require disclosure of transactions over $10,000? Of course not."

More proof Holder and the Justice Dept. have become nothing more then a house of stooges run for political means rather than upholding the law.

I expect no less from this cesspool of an Administration.

It is the ultimate in hypocrisy.

If it were possible to impeach an Attorney General they ought to do it to Holder. I don't think we ever had such a political hack holding that position. He is a disgrace.

It's frightening that this administration chooses not to enforce certain laws. Which laws are next? The 2012 election?

What good reason is there for not enforcing our immigration laws? This further hurts the Obama administrations credibility regarding the illegal immigration issue. Doesn't the president swear to uphold our laws and the Constitution when he is sworn in as president?

Great point. I personally can think of one good reason, and that would be to increase one's political cache. Not enforcing our immigration laws is not just this admistration's mindset. Others believe that our country needs to get these (and more) people "on the books" to bolster the Social Security system.

Oh yeah..

Lets see...A break down in values, the lack of reverence and belief in God, the fragmentation of the family, moral values have eroded, laws that are not being enforced, too many foreign intanglements and not enough military to support....whew! but lets continue... The Feds taking over local and state governments, a hugh ****ing invasion of illegal alliens living off the state, increase in crime, a government that is becoming more and more corrupt and looking out for themselves and last but not least, a population that has become fat, lazy, uneducated, a loss of the work ethic and using, the state to do everything for them.

Yeah, its a big ****ing cesspool

Funny how all the Obama fans are ducking this thread.

Oh, I'm sure they'll try to stiffle women's right to run for office if Palin's up for the count.
