“ The US Justice Department, in an extraordinary move on Tuesday, asked to take over the defense of President Donald Trump in a defamation lawsuit filed against him by E. Jean Carroll, a woman who has accused Trump of sexual assault.
While the alleged sexual assault occurred long before Trump became President, the Justice Department argued that it must take over because Trump's comments spurring the defamation lawsuit came while he was in office. The move -- defending Trump at taxpayer expense -- comes amid ongoing criticism that the Justice Department has acted in the President's personal interests.”

Just think of all the money Bill Clinton could have saved!

This is the one involving the dressing room at Bergdorf Goodman. They’ve been trying to force Trump to provide a DNA sample for months, and they just lost in state court again.

Meanwhile, the Trump Campaign, which had been paying Trump’s considerable legal bills, is strapped for cash.

“ The move comes as the Trump campaign has reportedly been facing a cash crunch due in part to its spending on legal fees defending suits against the president. According to the New York Times, Kasowitz has been paid more than $820,000 from campaign funds, though it’s not clear if that money was related to his work on Carroll’s suit.”

I doubt that anyone could argue with a straight face that the Barr DOJ isn’t anything more than a tool for Trump’s personal whims, and a weapon to use against his enemies.

This is not how we do things in the US.

Maybe in Russia, Riyhad, or Beijing. But not here.

Bill Clinton may have talked to Janet Reno at an airport, but he never really enjoyed the political luxury. of having the law completely in his pocket like this thing with Barr ams Trump.

Sounds to me like Bill Ciinton was a sucker for accepting *just* a 20 minute meeting on a runway.

The logic, such as it is, behind the defense -- and the transfer of the case from state to federal jurisdiction -- is two-fold. First, the well-known methodology of obfuscation and delay can be fully exploited and second, if it can be shown that the suit is against the United States itself, and not simply President of the United States of America Donald Trump, it can then be affirmed that the United States of America cannot be sued for defamation and the case dismissed. That will free President Donald Trump to defame whomever he chooses, nu?

Regards, stay safe 'n well. Remember the Big 3: masks, hand washing and physical distancing.

Just imagine your tax dollars being used to defend an accused rapist whom multiple other women have accused of having been either sexually assaulted or harassed by him, and who has also payed hush money to others in the course of an election. If that doesn't chap your ass I don't know what will.

So strange these things come forth just before the election. No proof but accusations are enough in democrat circles to be "proof".

What Trump is resisting are efforts to "prove" his innocence, oddly enough. If it's not his DNA on the dress, why not take a swab, send it back to the lawyers. If it's his, he can explain it to prove his innocence. Etc.

When he delays these things using any tool available, then Consigliere Barr offers for the U.S. to take over his defense - another stalling move, and also getting taxpayers to foot Trump's personal legal bills - we have to wonder how innocent he really is. If he is, then surely he'd be chomping at the bit to defend himself, sue the person for slander, etc. Get stuff on the record!!

What???

This isn’t new! This has been going on for two years. Trump went all the way to the Supreme Court and lost a very weak immunity argument. Now, he’s trying to hide behind Barr’s latest stunt.

The real objective is to tie it up in court until after the election. He doesn’t want to provide that DNA sample!
