As this is an ongoing experiment, we will continue to tweak the format until it becomes easier, and a better fit for this forum. This months debates will be quite different (many thanks to RealmOfThePureForms, for the format) but the overall feel will remain the same once debate starts. Debates will run a two week cycle, with one full week for voting at the end. Badges will be placed for participants at the end, and a coffee mug will go to the overall winner of a final poll that lists every participant in the debates.

Week one in June will be for setup, and setting the participants

Weeks 2 &3 will be for the actual debates, How many will be running is decided in week one. Each debate will have its own thread, and a discussion thread which the participants are not to comment in under any circumstance.

Week four will be poll week, with a likely Chatroom party for anyone interested in swaying the Mods one way or another.

So....use the below format to sign up in this thread:

Upon picking the subject(s) they would like to debate and listing them by preference first to last, they can be matched up with someone who wants to debate that topic from the other side thereby creating a debate between 2 people who are passionate about the subject they are debating.



A.Immigration/Amnesty -One person for it, one person against it debate.

B.Religion Taught In The School System- One person for it, one person against it debate

C.Evolution Taught In The School Sytem as Absolute Fact - One person for it, one person against it debate

D.The War In Iraq -One person for it, one person against it debate

E.Islam A Violent Religion ? - One person for it, one person against it debate

F.Is There Alien Life In Our Universe - One person for it, one person against it debate

Or...state an interest in acting as a monitor. This months debates will have the monitors asking questions of participants to guide the debate, in this way we should avoid the issue of Dead, or failing communications.

B.Religion Taught In The School System- Hell no! Against it totally.

C.Evolution Taught In The School Sytem as Absolute Fact - I believe it is a fact but not absolute. Too much yet to be learned. But creationism is just plain poppycock.

D.The War In Iraq -Do you have to ask? I have way too much gray matter in my skull to possibly support Bush's Iraqi vandetta.

E.Islam A Violent Religion ? - Not all Islamics are suicide bombers no more than all Pit Bulls maul children. But I don't trust Pitt Bulls. What does that tell ya?

F.Is There Alien Life In Our Universe - Can't really say either way but only a fool would proclaim it to be impossible.

I would be most interested in debating issues A,B or C

A - I see immigration as a Cheap Labor problem. I'm against big walls and tying it to the so called war on terror. I would like a path to citizenship.

B - Religion in schools - basically against, certainly not required.

C- Evolution - For it. Me likey Science.

D - War in Iraq - Get out ASAP

E - Islam a violent religion - I think it is. I also think all religions suck in general ;)

F - Alien Life - I think Darth Cheney is from another planet, besides that I have no idea.

A.Immigration/Amnesty - For, though the definition of amnesty has been hijacked in order to serve the purposes of the Repubs. Amnesty, in the current bill, does not exist.

Okay:

A.Immigration/Amnesty - I am pro improving immigration laws to make it easier to immigrate when we need more people. I am 100% opposed to any form of amnesty even for people who have been here illegally forever.

B.Religion Taught In The School System- I am pro teaching religion as history when religion has in fact played a verifiable role in the history of the nation and the world. I have a problem with teaching religious faith or teaching against religious faith in the public schools.

C.Evolution Taught In The School Sytem as Absolute Fact - I think evolution must be taught and I think the problems inherent in the theory should also be taught. In other words, those things science has proved as fact should be taught as fact. Those things science speculates on, no matter how informed, should be taught as theory only.

D.The War In Iraq - It would depend on how the debate is framed. Nobody with a brain is in favor of war. But when war must be waged, it must be waged to win with no quarter shown. In that respect I am in favor of the war in Iraq.

E.Islam A Violent Religion? Not really interested in debating this one. I can't think of any way to narrow the many Islamic sects into one framework for a coherent attack or defense.

F.Is There Alien Life In Our Universe - I believe there is. I also think there is no adequate way to prove that there is or that there isn't so it would have to be argued on theory and logic only.
 
I will take on either side of any subject.....I may not fully believe what I state....but can still debate the subject adequately. You can use me as filler....heh
 
i would like to debate 'religion taught in schools'...against

i am vehemently against any type of religion taught in school, especially the bible as fact in history. i feel this is a direct advocation of instilling one particular relgion in place of others.

if there is space for me, i thank you in advance,
