According to Talmud The Torah benefits an observant Jew's soul in infinitely many ways.

Every week we have Sabbath -- 25 hours of rest. That means that regardless of how urgent the conversation has been -- no Internet for 25 hours. This Sabbath is next to a holiday, thus 73 hours time out.

That does help not get addicted to Internet. I have 8,000? Russian posts, and 6,000? English posts. I guess anyone who has over 30,000 posts suffers from Internet Addiction Disorder.

A funny story ....

I was once employed by an Orthodox Jewish Person as a property manager. A very observant Jew. He owned 10 buildings and carried stacks of Styrofoam coffee cups around in the trunk of his car because he was not allowed to drink out of a coffee cup at a regular eating place because he could not be sure that it had been kept separate from dairy/meat products. (Or even washed together in the same dishwasher.) Most of the tenants within the buildings were Jewish as well.

Anyways .... I sort of felt sorry for people who arrived in the underground parking area and with their hands full of grocery bags, because they had to open a key/door to get into the building itself. They had to drop the grocery bags onto the ground to open the door with a key.

So, I installed an electric door.

Then came Sundown Friday, People were lined up refusing to open the door because it was electrically operated. They were not allowed to use electricity after sundown.

I never thought of that.

Needless to say, I went back to a key door.

That is why elevators in many "Modern" buildings are put on "Automatic" and two elevators are programed to stop at odd or even floors. They don't need to press any buttons, just wait until the programed elevator arrives at their floor.

Later on during my employment, I was having problems with kids hanging out in the stairwells and homeless people sleeping there as well. Several times people had used the stairwell as a toilet facility.

Well, I went to a pharmacy and purchased some very strong ammonia which is used in blueprint machines. And dripped a little bit up and down the stairwells.

I never thought of .....

Our elevators were old and were not programed to stop at odd/even floors.

Tenants used the stairwell after sundown on Friday.

Well, they couldn't because the odor of ammonia gas was too strong and it was bringing tears to their eyes.

May we conclude from this that anyone so afflicted is prey to severe diarrhoea of the jawbone (better said, index finger) and thus a goy?

I've known people who can get 30,000 posts into one uninvited verbal monologue and some of them were Jews. That's not counting all the others and even goes back to times before there ever was a net.

A Reform or Conservative Jew would use Internet on Sabbath.

A Conservadox Jew such as myself would not use Internet on Sabbath.

An Orthodox Jew -- much more observant then me would not participate in most forums like this one with all the flame and obscenity.

I would not use an electric door on Sabbath. In opinion of some Rabbis, walking by motion detector is OK. We have motion detectors at home.
