John Kerry to Sign UN Arms Trade Treaty Wednesday - Katie Pavlich

Secretary of State John Kerry is expected to sign the UN Arms Trade Treaty sometime Wednesday after opposition from Americans and the National Rifle Association. More from Reuters:

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, in a move that puts the Obama administration at odds with the powerful American gun lobby, will sign the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty regulating the $70 billion international conventional arms business, diplomats said on Tuesday.

A senior State Department official said President Barack Obama's administration would notify the U.S. Senate on Tuesday and Kerry would sign the treaty on Wednesday on the sidelines of the annual U.N. General Assembly in New York.

This sounds a lot like the Kyoto accords. They will sign it, it will never see a vote in the senate and we will therefore NOT be treaty signatories, and 4 years later they will blame the next president for not getting it passed. SOP.

Corker Warns Obama Administration Against Any Action to Implement U.N. Arms Trade Treaty...

US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations: Press Room - Ranking Member's Press

Mornin' WCH. :2wave: S.O.B.....they said they weren't going to sign it. Is Team Obama that desperate over their Foreign Policy that they would give in? Just to have some credibility with the UN.

Are they doing this due to the US being accused of Violating Human Rights?

Well at least Corker got this one Right.....Team Obama can't sign that treaty without Congress can he?

They don't have to extend.....all they need do is to make sure International law doesn't affect ones individual and National Rights.

All those in opposition to this Treaty have concerns about National Sovereignty and Individual rights from armed defense. The concern would be to ensure that the ATT doesn't undermine National Constitutions and Individual Rights.

As far as it, not affect our Rights.....it was called out on that due to the Import and Export controls that would require officials to an importing country to collect information on an end user. Plus keep a record for 20 years and then also give that information to the Exporting country.

It will take more than a Hérmès tie to make that bill fly in the Senate.

Nor should we EVER care what they think....

Well, we should be caring and stay alert. To be aware is to be alive.

The ATT advocates that the civilian guns must be included in any workable arms trade controls otherwise, governments could authorize export/import of sporting guns virtually the same as military/police weapons in function.

Course the treaty also states that it has to be workable and enforceable.

You misread my post, I was saying that your 2A rights don't extend to international trade and the power of the government to regulate international trade.

When the particulars of that international trade would require the US Government providing the names of "end user" purchasers of imported firearms, thereby requiring a database to be kept of those purchasers and updated whenver the firearm changes hands (via sale), it is most definitely covered under the Second Amendment.

Much ado about nothing. It's not going to be approved here, so who cares? It is nothing but hollow political posturing and no substance.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The United States, the world's largest arms dealer, has joined more than 90 other nations in signing a treaty that regulates global arms trading, but there is strong resistance in the Senate, which must ratify it. Secretary of State John Kerry, who signed the Arms Trade Treaty on Wednesday, said it was a "significant step" in keeping the world safe and preventing terrorists and others from obtaining conventional weapons.

The Obama administration's move is seen as critical to the treaty's success. The U.S. was the 91st country to sign, but the treaty will not take effect until 50 nations have ratified it. Only four had ratified the treaty as of Wednesday.

Many of the world's other top arms exporters have yet to sign and opposition in the Senate, backed by the powerful National Rifle Association, means U.S. ratification will be difficult.

"This is about reducing the risks of international transfers of conventional arms that will be used to carry out the world's worst crimes," Kerry said.

He said it would require other countries to put in place the same arms export restrictions that the United States already has in force.

"This is about keeping Americans safe and keeping America strong, and this is about promoting international peace and global security," he said.
Addressing U.S. critics of the treaty, the former senator said fears that it would undermine Americans' constitutional right to keep and bear arms are not grounded in reality.
For one, the treaty does not regulate domestic weapons sales.....snip~

U.S. signs treaty to regulate global arms trading

So Kerry signed it.....eager to rush in and join the UN. Quick to sell out the American People. At least Corker put them in Check.....just with the Senate. Then reminded them about Congressional Approval.

Note that lie Kerry stated first and Foremost.....that it would keep America Safe and Strong.

According to the talk show here in Houston Kerry did in fact sign it. Can you imagine this government here ruling over us as unarmed citizens? What is equally disturbing about Kerry is he seems obsessed about warring Iran. I don't get it after watching his pleas about the war in Viet Nam. He lock like he has suffered some minor brain damage as his right eye is screwy looking.
