John Kerry promises 'prompt' tax payment for yacht

Quote(Sen. John Kerry has told the Massachusetts Department of Revenue he will pay all the taxes due on his new $7 million yacht despite basing the vessel in tax-free Rhode Island.)

One wonders whether this extremely wealthy Democrat has had a change of mind due to his (ahem, conscience) or the media attention he has received for
1) Ordering his yacht to be made overseas, by foreigners.
2) Deciding to berth his brand new foreign built yacht in tax free Rhode island instead of his home state of Massachusetts.

I sincerely doubt that Obama will be overly enraptured that Kerry ignored the fact that American workers working in America are equally up to the task of building a yacht.
So much for Democrats seeking to reduce unemployment in the US.
I leave the guessing to you folks!

I'll ask the question I asked before; if this was a Republican senator, would the outcry be the same or would people say "This is a free country/free market!"?

The problem is that this is John, "I don't think I'm paying enough in taxes", Kerry. He went on record about the "rich" should pay more in taxes and then he pulls this. So no I do not think there will be an outcry or there should be unless that Republican was a tax increase advocate.

Good point, my response is yes I would make the same point whether this was a Republican, Communist, Socialist, Libertarian, Liberal.
In my eyes it is not necessarily the party to which someone (in this instance kerry) belongs to, it is what they as 'ploiticians' advocate for everyone else other than themselves, to me their words and actions smack of hypocrasy.

Good point you make.
Yes so far as I am concerned it matters little to me which party these Hypocritical politicians belong to, the fact that they advocate different standards for everyone else that they expect for themselves makes what Kerry did or attempted to do, somewhat santimonius.

I think that the majority of these elected politicians fail to remember they are elected as representatives of the people.
And yes I do agree that is probably a naive statement, but it is a statement that politicians need to hear loudly and repeatedly.

Maybe...Maybe not. Heck...PROBABLY not...But then...THIS particular piece of **** is the one claiming the wealthy dont pay their fair share of taxes. And this is ME laughing at ANY liberal that defends him. Just a general question out there...what the **** is WRONG with you kneejerk liberals that defend these guys? Why is that any politician that has a D next to his name can do no wrong? :lamo

I wouldn't complain except for the point made above about Kerry being an advocate of higher taxes.

I expect wealthy folks to protect their money just as anyone does, and the more people that would behave in this manner would have the state rethinking their position on taxation.

It's a big country, and it is why most professional golfers live in Florida and not California. They'd live in places where tennis pro's and artists reside but the most lucrative tour is US based. It's why tennis pro's and F1 drivers live in Monaco, Dubai, or Switzerland.

Back during the Clinton years they imposed a luxury tax that sank the boat industry as the wealthy that were targeted didn't need to buy an new boat or yacht at a government mandated screw-the-rich premium. That tax was quietly repealed...

...which proves a couple things:
1. Trickle Down works.
2. Trying to screw the wealthy only harms those down the feed chain.

Like a socialist or a communist can afford a yacht. They have difficulties maintaining a 35 dollar a week pot habit.

It always depends on what though. Also the best resources this nation has are its people.....sadly we do not focus to much on the development of our people anymore.

I agree, people are the best resources, their ingenuity and love for what they do creates jobs, competition for jobs, which raises wages when the climate encourages entrepreneurism. The problem is when government is hostile to the resource when it profits handsomely. We have that climate right now.

I've said it wouldn't bother me except for the fact that John Kerry is a serial tax raiser, and class warfare soldier...

...He is also the guy we know as Flip-Flop... for good reason.
Just another in a long list of Kerry Flip-flops.

George W Bush has chosen tax cuts for the wealthy and special favors for the special interests over our economic future.

John Kerry has the courage to take on the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.
President Bush and John Kerry - Position on Taxes

Kerry: Says he would cut deficit by half, at least, in first term, in part through repeal of Bush tax cuts for wealthier Americans.

John has hooked up with a couple of loaded Phillies to secure his fortune, and it seems he likes to keep what he's earned.
Flip-flop, Flip-flop, Flip-flop... I guess paying their fair share applies to others.

I'm surprised he's paying the tax myself. I think it's every American's right to avoid paying taxes. If anybody's paying taxes "on purpose," they're a little bit nutz. Not talking evading....avoiding. Why should John Kerry be any different than the rest of us? I wouldn't pay 'em if I were him. If he is paying them, I'm sure he's taking it as a "Public Relations" expense on his income tax. Ha!
