With a couple of rule changes and a few other shady tactics, the GOP leaders have fixed the Republican Convention so John Kasich will be their nominee.

So, barring a Trump third party run, Kasich will be the next POTUS. Looks like the Republican establishment hated by the Trump supporters will keep doing business as usual in D.C., despite all that wasted anger by conservatives supporting The Donald.

Over the past four decades the rank-and-file Republican voters helped the oligarchs take control of our government, these billionaires now refuse to permit any “populist” candidate rock their boat. One need only ask people like the Koch Brothers, they own the GOP and will see to it that government policies continue to benefit the very rich while destroying the middle class.

The right wing helped establish our socialist government for the wealthy, now the conservatives must live with their creation. Trump will not be allowed to save them from skyrocketing debt, deteriorating infrastructure, perpetual war, a declining middle class, etc., all are the results of the GOP's socialism for the super-rich.

There are about 30 "IFs" in there.

If these eight points happen, and if the Democrats don't win, and if the sky turns yellow over Indiana on a Tuesday....

You might possibly be right even though Gov Kasich has won only one state, his own. It's almost a certainty Trump will not be the nominee and Cruz is so intensely loathed by his own party that most republican delegates will vote against the extreme right winger or vote possibly for Hillary Clinton or simply refuse to vote at all. I've heard on telly that Utah's Senator Lee, Cruz's closest and only friend, in the Senate, is trying to line up Cruz's senate colleagues to endorse the rogue candidate, but so far, no takers; Kasich might be next in line unless Paul Ryan decides to jump into the Convention shakeup. Well, that is my personal opinion at this time.

I have thought about that and liked the idea. The math and game of negotiation could solve for Kasich and it would make sense unless Trump were to get the votes.

The Koch Brothers are not involved in this primary race....However, I would love to see a Kasich Presidency.

i doubt it, though he would have been the best candidate in the field for the general. i think if the establishment pulls a coup, it will be Paul Ryan. however, i'm not convinced that they'll actually do that. it would probably guarantee a loss, and Ryan is almost certain to mount a potentially successful presidential run at some point.

If only...I'd rather have him than Trump, Clinton, Cruz or Sanders.

His record on Womens Reproductive Rights is a problem for me, however having said that, I don't demand ideological purity from those who I think would be good for the job and it's very clear Kasich is the best candidate in the race overall.

However qualified or suitable doesn't seem to matter in American politics... the best candidate America has had in over 20 years was John Huntsman and he didn't have a chance in hell.

Why even have the primaries?

The guy has only won one state and they are going to reward him? Isn't this like our youth sports programs where every kid is a winner even the kid who comes in last in the race?

He is more Conservative than I'd really like. However, given the current crop of major party candidates...

The author, some Seth guy some assistant professor from a New Hampshire School of creative writing had the same 'elite' attack for Bernie vs Hillary just last week.

Seems he has one drum and he likes to beat it. He acts like this is any other election year. that those who voted for Trump or Cruz would gladly get in line for Kasich come november. Kasich won ONE state, seriously one state... who thinks the other states want him to be the nominee- if they did they would have voted for him!

Now the 'elite' doesn't need to change any rules- each convention basically throws past rules out and adopts a new series of rules. The real whine point is while the delegates are pledged to the candidate who 'won' them for the first ballot there is NO rule they have to like the guy- infact many states' political machines pick the delegate- that was an oversight by the 'fine print' reading Donald.... too late he learns the delegates pledged to him in the first ballot are more than likely going to abandon him after that... :3oops:

However for all some see the 'solution' of inserting a candidate that failed miserably in the primary process because of polling OUTSIDE the primary process will fly are only fooling themselves... THAT is EXACTLY what is driving the 'hate Gubmint' rage in the GOP. The vast majority of primary voters in the GOP voted for someone other than Kasich and ignoring their votes would be ahhhh interesting to say the least... As crazy as allowing trump to get the nomination... seems this go-round the GOP is damned if they do and damned if they don't...

And they really have only themselves to blame... :peace

When pigs fly!

Once Cruz fully realizes he's being played to give Kasich the nomination in an open convention;
Will Cruz release his delegates before the first ballot after seeing the changes by the rules committee?

Will Trump promise Cruz a prized appointment to the USSC?

Kasich will continue to carry on with his deceptive charade, knowing he can only be nominated on the 2nd ballot or ensuing ones.

Of all the mistakes DEMs are making right now, giving Kasich a pass on criticism and underestimating him and the GOP establishment are at the top.
Kasich is clearly the best hope GOPs have in winning the general .

He is more Conservative than I'd really like. However, given the current crop of major party candidates...

A Kasich nomination would ensure that the House remains strongly GOP and the Senate remains tight.
The 2018 Senate map strongly favors the GOP.
This is what the GOP establishment cares about.

GOPs can and will filibuster any Clinton or Sanders nominee to the USSC, if they lose the POTUS.
DEMs can and will filibuster any Kasich or Cruz or Trump nominee to the USSC, if they lose the POTUS.
I seriously doubt I will ever see a 9th Justice ever put on this bench .

Both sides would threaten a filibuster, but in the end will be forced to vote on it.

It's only deceptive to people who aren't paying attention to Kasich's campaign, and that's pretty much everybody. I've seen this from the beginning, Kasich is a master at politics he is the only hope for us on the second ballot. I don't see Kasich giving a spot to Cruz. They aren't teaming up now, so doubtful they will team up then especially if the convention is messy and made more messy by Kasich. NOTE: Cruz thinks he's winning all these delegate now, but that means nothing if he can't win 90% more of them.

Although it remains to be seen if Romney would have given Santorum a spot, I highly doubt he would have. Usually as it goes, no one candidate becomes a part of the President's cabinet if they ran against that person in the primary. I think a lot of bad blood gets spilled behind the scenes moreso than in public and this makes the candidates genuinely not like each other. Although they must show some sort of civility at the debates (Though not Trump) At least that's how it's been modernly, I'm not too sure about past elections pre-1990. With such a big crop of national GOP figures in the race this time it is definitely possible to see people team up. I can see Perry and Carson and Christie in a Trump cabinet. I just don't think Kasich and Cruz run in the same circles. They may not necessarily even know each other all that well. Kasich appeals more to Trump. They share a lot of the same base, and he also appeals to Rubio. The GOP are not too thrilled about Cruz's money filled circles but they are letting him play this out until the second ballot.
