Jimmy Kimmel suspension spurs House Democratic leaders to demand FCC chair resign​


House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and his leadership team on Thursday called for Federal Communications Commission chair Brendan Carr to resign over the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel.

Why it matters: The House Democratic leaders are accusing Carr of using his government position to pressure a private company to crack down on protected First Amendment speech — and they're promising an investigation.

Carr is now facing SERIOUS backlash.

Carr violated the 1st Amendment.

His career is over.

Jeffries is a partisan idiot who has delusions of importance.

He should shit in one hand and put his demand in the other and see which hand is carrying a heavier weight.

I doubt it. Any Democratic president will need to save all political capital from bigger things than that. Revoking medals stupidly awarded by Dysfunctional Donald will only turn into a weapon in the hands of the right wing hate propaganda machine to be used against Democrats. Bigger fish to fry.

The only Democratic president who might be able to get away with that might be President Jimmy Kimmel.

It would be a mistake for the House to impeach Disaster Donald. The Senate would never convict and it would be used as a PR tool to sink Democrats.

He's the head of the Federal Censorship Commission. This comes with the territory.

As for the Democrats, their "call for him to resign" represents not some bold application of power, but a confession of their absolute powerlessness. All they can do is beg their enemy to stop bullying them, to which he is obviously going to say No.

Note that the Democrats COULD still legally start a news and entertainment network set up by their party for party believers (but financially independent/liability-protected) - not a broadcast one, but one distributed in some innovative ways - and invite Kimmel to join. That would be weak, but some application of power.

But the Democrats don't want power. They want to spend their time doing idle, empty gestures so people don't notice that the same money that pays the Republicans is paying the Democrats to lose.

Doubtful, at least not in the short term.

Democrats can demand all they want but from the minority position all Trump has to do is phone his lieutenants Mike Johnson and John Thune then the FCC chair will be protected from all that much until after the midterms (assuming a few things of course.)

Trump's full embrace of fascism is still full steam ahead.
