The conflict began in 1948 when the Palestinians decided to wage war rather than accept a partition for which they now beg. What you see today is the result of 72 years of Palestinian military incompetence and political foolishness.

Not quite the same. Palestinians were in 1948 offered the partition for which they now beg. They chose to go to war instead. The first of many self-defeating decisions.
Given your avatar, it's worth noting that the Palestinians' leader in 1948, the Mufti of Jerusalem, had spent WW2 in Berlin as Hitler's friend and ally. Karma.
