Factually incorrect Miss. Cortez.

Egypt and Judea were all controlled by the Roman Empire at the time.

Someone fleeing California and moving to Ohio is not a refugee.

Miss Cortez is not a Christian. Please do not lecture Christians on the Bible when you yourself are not a Christian.

U.S. Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. wished her Twitter followers a Merry Christmas Tuesday by referring to the newborn Jesus as a "refugee."

"Joy to the World!" Ocasio-Cortez wrote. "Merry Christmas everyone - here’s to a holiday filled with happiness, family, and love for all people. (Including refugee babies in mangers + their parents.)"

And as we all know, the Roman empire around the end of BC and the start of AD the Roman Empire didn't have infighting, revolts, and civil war.

Miss Cortez is not a Christian. Please do not lecture Christians on the Bible when you yourself are not a Christian.

And don't lecture history when you yourself don't know actual history.

Of course the nativity story in Matthew is patterned after the story of Jesus' ancestors in Exodus. The Bible's undisputed refugees fleeing Egypt went on to commit divinely-sanctioned genocide against the people of Canaan. Perhaps there are echoes of a deeply-ingrained cultural phobia to be found in modern right wing views ;)

Yeah, he pretty much was.

A. You're wrong yet again.
B. No one familiar with your history believes you're a Christian.
C. Pity you don't actually know the bible.

Jesus was actually a documented citizen. Read Luke 2:1-5

And I am reviewing the legal term of refugee. Just because someone flees a nation/territory, does not make them a refugee.

From your link:

However, in the Gospel of Matthew, Mary and Joseph flee into Egypt with the infant Jesus after King Herod of Judea orders the murder of every boy aged two and under in Bethlehem after the Magi ask him where to find the newborn "King of the Jews." The Holy Family escape the slaughter and are told by an angel to return to Israel once Herod is dead.

What were they if not refugees?

As for your assertion that she is not a Christian, on what is that based?

She’s Catholic.

LOL! I don't need people that are a. Not Christians, b. do not read the bible. and c. Do not attend church to lecture me on biblical facts.

Would it be wrong of me then to ask that you follow Tengri instead of Jehova?

No, she marks catholic on the census form. Two different popes have outright said that socialism in incompatible with church teaching. She also is pro-abortion, and best I can tell rejects all moral teachings of the church. I don’t get the impression she’s actually among the faithful

*sigh*

Not that I want to see politicians bring bible stuff into what we do as a nation but I can point out when someone is wrong.

The OP is wrong.

https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/refugee

a person who leaves his or her home or country to find safety, esp. during a war or for political or religious reasons

Matthew 2: 13-15 (ESV)

13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” 14 And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt 15 and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt I called my son.”

Herod was a client king of Judea. Mary and Joseph fled to get away from Herod into Egypt. Thus they were refugees from their homeland.

Refugee status has nothing to do with citizenship or some such.

So you don't need yourself?

You should consider reading the bible some day. It's a most interesting read.

How did you get from the topic of Ocasio-Cortez's remark to the topic of Jesus' being (not being) a refugee?

Read Luke 2:1-5:

*And it came to pass in those days, that there went out aa decree from Caesar Augustus, that all bthe world should be ||taxed. 2 (And this ctaxing was first made when Cyrenius dwas governor of ddSyria.) 3 And all went to be ||taxed, every one into his own city. 4 And Joseph also ewent up from fGalilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto gthe city of David, which is called Beth-lehem; h(because he was of the house and lineage of David:) 5 To be ||taxed with Mary ihis espoused wife, being great with child.

Once again, Someone from Florida could flee Florida due to their oppressive laws. Fleeing Florida to Maryland does not make one a refugee.

LOL! No, he wasn't and, no, that verse doesn't show that he was.

You should really consider reading the bible one day.

Such a fail, even for Bucky.

Sigh.

Once again, I am talking about the legal term Refugee, and Jesus legally was no refugee.

Being a documented citizen in the Roman Empire does not hold the same weight as being a documented citizen in modern-day America. Especially when Bethlehem was so far away from Rome itself in the dawn of the first century. I'm not going to argue biblical scripture because I don't recgonize the bible as a reliable source of history.

By your definition. Those that left New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina to Texas and elsewhere. Are they considered refugees?

Clearly you're laughably ignorant of the story in the bible. Yes, he was: an “angel of the Lord” comes to Joseph in a dream and warns him to leave Bethlehem for Egypt (Mt 2:12-15). Why? Because King Herod was planning to “seek out the child to destroy him.” Mary and Joseph do leave, along with Jesus, and, according to Matthew, make their way into Egypt. Afterward, King Herod slaughters all the male children in Bethlehem under two years of age

the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees defines that group of people as follows:

A refugee is someone who has been forced to flee his or her country because of persecution, war, or violence. A refugee has a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group.

The Holy Family, as Matthew recounts the story, was fleeing because of a “well-founded fear of persecution” because of their “membership in a particular social group,” in this case people with young children living in Bethlehem. I am not sure how you could get any clearer than that."

IOW, a refugee.

You lose. Again.

1st century Roman Empire was not modern day America with its national citizenship.

Furthermore, unless you missed it, the family went to Judea (mentioned earlier) and Jesus was born at that time. The flight to Egypt happened after the passage you listed in Luke.

Thanks for proving my point. Jesus didn't flee his country. Why is this so hard for you to understand?

I will admit when I am wrong however in this case, I am correct.

Yes, he did flee his country, as the bible says.

If you're intimidated by reading it for the first time, there are a lot of good Children's Bibles that have a lot of pictures n' stuff.
