Jefferson looses re-election

Just got notified via politico breaking news.

This is huge, considering that this is a D+24 district, or maybe not so huge, considering the fact that the good citizens of Louisiana seem to be pretty honest and upright people. :)

About ****ing time, this sack of **** should've been out long time ago.

About darn time the Louisiana voters started cleaning house. That crap has been going on for waaay too long.

Whats sad is that the newspapers are trying to paint it as a white vs. black thing. I mean isn't it possible that maybe just maybe African Americans in the area were fed up with the corruption and maybe just maybe voted for someone else?

Then why did they elect the guy 9 bloody times?

Given the batting average of Louisiana voters, we can only imagine how bad the new guy is. ;)

How is it white vs black when Jefferson's opponent was Asian.

I'm glad he lost, he was one of the most open crooked Politicians out there.

Obama did not endorse Cao. So will Cao be getting one of Obama's prank phone calls today? ;)

They're trying to say that there was a much larger turn out of white voters and that possibly the number of black voters was depleted due to Hurricane Katrina.

/sarcasm And we all know those dirty white people will always vote for an asian over an african american. Gah, if they didn't have such great casino's I'd say lets let France buy them back and pay off some of our national debt.

Change is occuring in New Orleans

We voted to consolidate the seven assessors into one.

We also votes to consolidate the two sheriffs, Civil and Criminal Courts, and the Clerk's offices.

We have elected new State Representatives that have mostly worked to reform the state.

We have elected 5/7 School Board members who are committed to Charter School and reform. Orleans Parish is now leading the Nation on reforming inter-city schools.

We elected several new competent and honest Judges, one of which replaced Charles Elloise.

We elected a very bright, honest, and competent DA

We have elected at a City Council that voted unanimously to tear down the four big housing projects and has actively fought for transparency and accountability.

The new council includes members such as Arnie Fielkow and Stacy Head who defeated Rene Pratt, Mosses Jefferson’s girl friend. The Council has also created and funded the Inspector General’s office.

We voted to protect and fund the Inspector General’s Office in the City Charter.

Bill Jefferson is now history. Although he slightly won the part of the district that is in Orleans Parish, all of Lakeview and much of Uptown are not part of this district and did not vote yesterday. Had he been in a city wide race which was open to all (Republican and Democrat), he would have lost by a landslide.

Just about all of these things would have been politically unthinkable in August, 2005. We will elect a new Mayor in about 15 months. This time only the people who live here will be allowed to vote. If the past three years are any indication, we will make a good decision with that office as well and our new Mayor will appoint competent people.
