Jared Kushner's firm got $2 billion from Saudi wealth fund run by crown prince, despite board's objections

iu

4.11.22
The main Saudi sovereign wealth fund, controlled by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, invested $2 billion in Jared Kushner's new private equity firm six months after Kushner left the White House, where he was a key defender of bin Salman, even though the Saudi fund's investment screening committee expressed serious misgivings, The New York Times reported Sunday night, citing internal documents. Kushner was a senior White House adviser to his father-in-law, former President Donald Trump. The screening committee's four members — current or former heads of Saudi Aramco, Dow Chemical, the Saudi Central Bank, and Saudi Industrial Development Fund — voted unanimously against investing in Kushner's fledging Affinity Fund, citing the "inexperience" of its management, an asset management fee that "seems excessive," and the fact that due diligence found the firm's operations "unsatisfactory in all aspects," the Times reports. "But days later the full board of the $620 billion Public Investment Fund" overruled the screening panel.

"Ethics experts say that such a deal creates the appearance of potential payback for Mr. Kushner's actions in the White House — or of a bid for future favor if Mr. Trump seeks and wins another presidential term in 2024," the Times reports. Among other things, "Kushner played a leading role inside the Trump administration defending Crown Prince Mohammed after U.S. intelligence agencies concluded that he had approved the 2018 killing and dismemberment of Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi columnist for The Washington Post and resident of Virginia who had criticized the kingdom's rulers."

The bottomless graft of the Trump family.

Pssst.... Tom Barrack was the Saudi's "man in America" before Trump-Jared.

Barrack is gonna need to make a deal.... no pardon power in sight...

Its interesting to have all this speculation about a dubious laptop, but where real confirmed corruption is taking place, people ignore it.
Nebulous conspiracy claims invite debate that go into the hundreds of pages, but when something is as straightforward and undeniable as this, there’s really just not much more to say. Essentially, this is the likely corruption that conservatives want to believe took place with Hunter and his father.

If a conservative accuses someone of something you can bet they've already do it themselves.

The G.O.P.'s oppression megaphone is adept at steering the cultists away from the stench that is right under their noses.

"Just in time for a Labor Day weekend road trip, a new report reveals hundreds of America’s worst speed traps. According to a national database compiled by Governing magazine, at least 583 cities and towns have collected 10% or more of their general fund revenue from fines and forfeitures. Among those jurisdictions, 80 relied on fines to generate over half of their budget revenue. Most of those municipalities came from just four states: Georgia, Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma...."

Heading into midterms, Republicans are the party of the poor and Democrats a the party of the rich. Look at state legislatures in the poorest states.

It's their faux outrage about anything they can use to bash the dems over their heads and it matters not if it is factual, however, when the corruption is blatant and coming from the right, it's a nothingburger, move along. If one is old enough to understand, it really is amazing what trump has done to the gop in four short/long years. Saint Ronald Reagan must be turning in his grave.

As far as I'm concerned the gop has become an angry white mob that just wants to tear down the america we have today and put an authoritative government in control while they talk about protecting our rights.

Wish there was a double like option. Especially the last sentence.

Later that June, Veselnitskaya screened a film by Andrei Nekrasov at the Newseum in Washington, D.C., that was critical of Magnitsky. She was "deeply involved in the making of The Magnitsky Act – Behind the Scenes". .. according to RussiaTV5, a "station whose owners are known to be close to Mr. Putin"....

Veselnitskaya represented Pyotr Katsyv's son, Denis, when Preet Bharara, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, charged him with money laundering. Federal prosecutors accused Katsyv of using Manhattan real estate deals to launder money stolen from Browder's Hermitage Capital Management. The Russian government then banned Bharara from traveling there.

...on 14 June 2016. Former U.S. ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul testified as Veselnitskaya sat behind him.
In October 2015, Veselnitskaya traveled to Manhattan, with her clients, for a deposition in the money laundering case. After being told, at the end of the deposition, that the counterparty would be required to reimburse her for her expenses, she billed the U.S. government $50,000, ..

Because the officer, known only as Victor K., .. was later dismissed, suspected of abuse of office, violation of official secrecy and corruption. During an unauthorized flight, Karapetyan died in a helicopter crash north-east of Moscow in March 2019.

.. Trump fired Bharara on 11 March 2017 and Jeff Sessions replaced him with Joon Kim ..during the rest of the case. In May 2017, the international money laundering case was settled with Katsyv's company, Prevezon Holdings, which was represented by Louis Freeh, paying $6 million (without any admission of wrongdoing). The settlement was for less than 3% of the amount prosecutors had initially sought. In November 2017, Katsyv's company Prevezon stated that it would pay the fine using money from AFI Europe which is a subsidiary of Lev Leviev's Africa Israel Investments.

In March 2017, Senator Chuck Grassley filed a complaint alleging...

In a 14 July 2017,..Veselnitskaya acknowledged that she was in regular contact ...with Prosecutor General Yury Chaika "while waging a campaign against U.S. sanctions".

This is what corruption looks like. Someone largely determining US policy on Saudi Arabia with a corrupt relationship to the murderous dictator who has $2 billion waiting for him. This is another reason Republican voters deserve so much blame for falling for trump's con job.

When a society *supports* terrible government, it's not much different in a democracy that chooses that government than in a totalitarian society that has that government. If Mas had been elected, it would have been very similar in how bad he was and democracy wouldn't have much mattered. That's why our modern propaganda machine is a huge threat to our democracy functioning, and corrupts it.

you have to give the biggest crooks a little bit of credit going big. they know that if they structure things in a certain way, and if they crash and burn, then either other people will bail them out of they just walk away and let shell companies burn.

it's really smart and has zero honor and no integrity.

Jared deserves the money. He did all Trump asked him to do. Jared brought peace to the Middle East, solved the opiod epidemic and reformed our broken prison system while at the same time reshaping the American government and making it run like a business. Kudos.

So he used his influence to seal a $2 Billion deal with a murdering prince from an oppressive regime. No biggie. It's not like we've had his laptop since 2019.
