Proves nothing.Nineteen people have been killed in a knife attack at a residential care centre for the mentally disabled in Japan, local emergency services say.
The attack in Sagamihara happened in the early hours of Tuesday. Another 26 people were injured, 20 seriously.
Local police have arrested a male suspect after he turned himself in.

One doesn't need a gun to commit Mass Murder....only the INTENT.
Less guns? Criminals will find another way. Firearms are highly restricted in Japan. Ya? So what?

I really don't like pro-gun people making this argument, because it is a weak one. There have been 0 mass stabbings in the last 100 years it appears, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Mass_stabbings, that have killed more than 10 people aside from cases where the targets were kindergartners or the disabled.
There are plenty of good arguments involving individual rights. People intent on mass murder can still make bombs. But don't try to equivocate guns and knives because they are not even remotely similar in their ability to cause mass death.
Murders will always be committed. Your implication that gun laws do not work is bogus. Look at Japanese crime ratesActually, it does.
Many people apparently, do not see the potential or the extended ramifications of this.
This was only one guy with a knife, suppose there were two, or three or four, all with the same plan and one target.
Sure, there are many other arguments, but I think this is also a valid one.
It's not the way I would do it, were I to do a heinous crime, but it does go to prove that mass murder can still be accomplished.....with only a knife.
There have been others over the years....many not documented.

Well yeah multiple people with knives can do damage, although not as much as multiple people with a gun. And a single person with a knife can do plenty of damage as long as he only attacks targets like the disabled and children. But one person with a knife, is not going to be able to take out many healthy adults. They aren't anywhere near equivalent, and its a losing argument to present them as such.
You are right-but what is also true is that in a country like ours-where average people were not summarily executed for having the same weapons as the elites (as they were in Japan for many decades) -and where we have massive open borders, Japanese style gun bans and Japanese style lack of fourth or fifth or sixth amendment type freedoms will have absolutely no hope of stopping crime. indeed such laws will only make it easier for criminals to rape, pillage and kill. and I do not know if its still true but back in the late 80s, there was evidence that Japanese and first generation Japanese Americans living in the USA had lower rates of gun violence than those in their native country
That's a better argument. I just really don't like the knife=gun type arguments that pro-gun people sometimes make. They only hurt their cause.

Past history - different cultures. Witness WW2 & Japans surrender, were any US troops attacked by the civilian populace?

Stats are here if interested- US-Japan
Japan vs United States Crime Stats Compared
don't know but I know that US POWs in German captivity had a 1% mortality rate-mainly injured aviators, but in Japan it was about a third were killed or died due to maltreatment by the Japanese.
That and it is not possible to ban weapons in the US. You have 2 A rights. You have a point, but the fact remains, a latino of one national origin-pissed off about being given the boot at club run by latinos of another national origin in NYC about 15 or so years ago, managed to kill around 60 people with a gallon of gasoline and a bic lighter. but its WORTHLESS to talk about Japanese laws. they never allowed commoners to own Firearms, let alone Katanas which were the top weapon in that society for decades. If you could ban guns from day one, and strictly limit them to the police and military you wouldn't have MUCH crime with firearms -just a police state like North Korea. a ban on firearms like Japan has NOW in the USA would only mean criminals would have a much easier time-assuming gun owners actually wouldn't violently resist efforts to confiscate firearms and if that were to happen, we'd either have complete anarchy or further out, a country that ultimately would be voting between the GOP and the Libertarian party
Do you have some evidence that the Japanese crime rate is low because of restrictive gun laws? Of course you don't. So your implication is bogus.

Most would not surrender their weapons. Not going to happen.
Many Americans would take up arms or engage in other forms of rebellion if the rights we have were abrogated so as to create a society like Japan has. No fourth amendment rights, no fifth amendment rights, no six amendment rights
