Someone who is even thinking about stabbing the person of their affection is no longer a "fan".

On the very same day that Sandy Hook occurred and 26 children and school teachers were slaughtered, a mass stabbing took place in an elementary school in China.

None died.

No one wants to ban your guns. Stop pretending that such is the case.

Knives don't hurt people.

Evil people with knives hurt people.

If you take away their knives they'll just use something else.

After all, what else can they do when stuff like this happens? No one is safe from those evil knives.

Crap posts like this is why we can't have a serious discussion about violence. Only a select few would think knives are as deadly a weapon as a high cap mag firearm.

And they would be wrong... :peace

stop the lies. Clinton, Obama, DiFeinstein and everyone else who voted FOR or supported the Clinton Gun ban wants to ban my guns. everyone who supported the Chicago and DC handgun bans wants to ban my guns. So why do you lie when you know that YOU YOURSELF have called for complete handgun bans.

Look-I realize gun banners and the bannerrhoid organizations want to pretend that as long as we can keep some guns, there is no gun ban. So lets explore that patent idiocy.

So you Democrats ban all semi auto rifles.

what is your next move? its not like you all are going to stop. Crime is going down and yet the Democrats want more gun laws so we know its not an increase in crime that causes this jihad against gun owners. You will then try to ban say semi auto shotguns. and then handguns etc

so stop the lies. plenty of people want to ban our guns. Its just how many at a time that is at issue

Stop the lies, you find one or two who want something close to your whine and you run around with your 4th POC on fire. Someone finds one or two idiots who leave a handgun within reach of a toddler and you turn away- call it an exception, pretend you have no opinion because you don't know all the facts...

There was no Clinton 'gun' ban so quit lying... :peace

so Clinton didn't sign into law and lobby for an "assault weapon ban"

We will see who is lying.

I am not talking about rare incidents of stupidity. I am talking about the DEMOCRAT party and its hostility to gun rights and I know I am truthful because of those who try to defend the Democrat scum bags who want to restrict gun rights

What did I lie about? and go ahead pretend that scum bags who praise the Australian and British bed wetting response to isolated massacres are NOT calling for gun bans

Pretend that Carolyn McCarthy and Diane Feinswine, Schumer and Biden aren't calling for bans on semi auto rifles

You said ban on 'guns' when anyone who SHOULD have a better grasp of events KNOWS the TEMPORARY ban (which had BIPARTISAN support in Congress) was on ONE type- assault weapons...

You rant about democrat scumbags while ignoring the 'gun' toting scumbags you dismiss as not law abiding- you peel the onion when convenient and smear all who want reasonable regulations as 'they want to take our GUNS!!!!!'... :doh

Fact is you know as well as anyone there will be no ban on ALL semi auto rifles, but you really don't care about facts- just ranting and railing... :peace

stupid semantic evasion. It was a ban and many DEMOCRATS wanted it made permanent-both when it was passed and when it was about to expire. Why don't you tell me about the ban on any machine gun made after May 19, 1986? that is a gun ban.

and assault weapon is a moronic term that someone who pretends to know about guns ought to understand is a nebulous term that Feinstein admitted should have included ALL magazine fed semi auto rifles

Look I realize its tough to pretend to be in favor of people owning SOME GUNS while being a fan boy for socialist and progressive politics, but the silly attempt to attack those of us who blame gun bans on who is responsible-the DEMOCRAT party, is just dishonest

Well to point something out, china is working hard on banning or severely restricting knives, literally! but no one brings up the other mass killings in japan with knives, like the one where the guy killed 3 people with his truck, and injured two, followed by stabbing twelve people, with 8 injured and four killed, so ten injured and seven killed by one man and zero firearms

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akihabara_massacre

and yes since that occurred in 2008, japan has been reviewing it's laws and calling for bans and restrictions on certain types of knives like china has.

You're right. We should move to ban hammers next.

I propose a three day waiting period so the *BATFE(H) can conduct a background search. Then a training class must be passed to show evidence of safe use. Then hammers must be registered and taxed. Successful training demonstrating competency must occur every three years with another fee collected by the certified trainer and the agency that regulates hammers. Then and only then can someone use a hammer on their own property. If however someone wants to take a hammer to their job location or property at another location, they must apply for a concealed and open carry hammer permit. To use another tool in place of a hammer would be prohibited by law.

Hammers must be stored securely in a locked box/safe in the home. Additionally, to transfer a hammer from one citizen to another paperwork must be filed with the *BATFE(H). After a three day waiting period has occurred, the hammer owner may pick up his hammer from a registered dealer. A transfer fee will also be applied.

Automatic hammers will be banned under a new law. Only semi-automatic hammers are legal with a restriction of 10 nails or less attached at any time. After market devices that hold more than 10 nails are subject to a $10,000 fine and lengthy jail time.

*Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms Explosives and Hammers

Assault Weapons Ban summary - Assault Weapons - United States Senator Dianne Feinstein
The legislation bans the sale, transfer, manufacturing and importation of:

All semiautomatic rifles that can accept a detachable magazine and have at least one military feature: pistol grip; forward grip; folding, telescoping, or detachable stock; grenade launcher or rocket launcher; barrel shroud; or threaded barrel.
All semiautomatic pistols that can accept a detachable magazine and have at least one military feature: threaded barrel; second pistol grip; barrel shroud; capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location outside of the pistol grip; or semiautomatic version of an automatic firearm.
All semiautomatic rifles and handguns that have a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.
All semiautomatic shotguns that have a folding, telescoping, or detachable stock; pistol grip; fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 5 rounds; ability to accept a detachable magazine; forward grip; grenade launcher or rocket launcher; or shotgun with a revolving cylinder.
All ammunition feeding devices (magazines, strips, and drums) capable of accepting more than 10 rounds.
157 specifically-named firearms (listed at the end of this page).

According to gun banners...as long as they still allow single shot weapons they arent 'banning guns'.

Some in England have also proposed knife bans.

The original AWB did not ban any "Assault weapons".

Assault weapons are full auto or selective fire.

It banned semi-auto weapons of certain characteristics, including popular sporting rifles, from sale.

The more recent AWB attempt by Pelosi was much more broad-ranging and constituted a real ban even on pre-owned weapons which could not be sold, transferred or inherited, only turned in for destruction.

That pool has been pissed in too often... we don't buy it any more.

Japanese singer seriously injured after fan stabbing - CNN.com

No one is safe from those evil knives.

Japan's crime rate is 1/4 that of the United States
Japan's homicide rate is 1/5 that of the US
Japan has slightly fewer police officers per capita than the US (200 per 100k, vs 250 per 100k)
Ratio of violent crime to guns: Japan = 0.6, the US is 88.8

It should be screamingly obvious that if you're trying to highlight the potential issues of gun control, Japan is probably the worst point of comparison to the US.

It's a different culture. To say "they do things differently in Japan" is an understatement of positively English proportions, along with "attacking Russia in winter is difficult". :D

They've never had a gun culture or indeed any concept that Jing Average has any right to own a gun.... or indeed anything much in the way of rights at all.

In Japan, for instance, you will not be arrested until they are reasonably sure you're guilty... once arrested you are assumed guilty and expected to confess and take your punishment. Japanese prisons are rather harsh... not 3rd world harsh but FAR moreso than US prisons and jails. The accused has very limited rights.

The Japanese criminal element operates very differently from the US criminal element... one difference being they are part of the culture, with established boundaries and internal rules that keep them out of conflict with the police more often than not. When a crime is committed by a Yak and there's enough evidence to prove it, the police go to the Yakuza and demand the perp be turned over to them. Regardless of who DID the crime, a low-level Yakuza will be turned in and will confess (whether he did it or not) and take his punishment as part of his initiation into the higher ranks of the organization. The police know this person is probably NOT the actual perp, but propriety is satisfied because someone from the group is punished.

Just some of the differences...

If comparing the US and UK is apples and oranges, comparing US and Japan is apples and sashimi. :)

It's a different culture....
I'm aware of that. Further, my point was not that "what works in Japan will work in the US," or to say that the only valid international comparison is Japan vs US.

It's that the OP's point is beyond ridiculous, made even more so by how crime is substantially lower in Japan than in the US. When you suggest "banning guns is bad!" based on a single incident involving a knife, when crime rates are significantly lower in Japan than in the US, it utterly undermines that point.

I.e. if you're trying to point out a potential problem with banning guns, bringing up Japan is not a good way to go.

They've never had a gun culture or indeed any concept that Jing Average has any right to own a gun.... or indeed anything much in the way of rights at all.
So the US has substantially higher crime and homicide rates because we have a strongly cultivated sense of gun rights? Good to know.

Did I mention that Japan is a bad example for the pro gun-rights position? ;)

If comparing the US and UK is apples and oranges, comparing US and Japan is apples and sashimi. :)
I concur. That's why I'm telling the OP that it's a bad idea.
