The Jan. 6 select committee has formalized a path to share witness transcripts and evidence with the Justice Department, its chair Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) told POLITICO Thursday.
“We’ve put a template together for sharing information, sharing it with Justice. My understanding is, there’s general agreement on it,” Thompson said.
Imo, the more stuff like this that comes out, the more pressure djt will feel to announce his candidacy. I think he feels that if he is a candidate DoJ won't be able to prosecute him.Jan. 6 committee has a formal path to share investigative material with DOJ, its chair says
Agreement on evidence-sharing would mark a significant milestone as the DOJ inquiry into efforts by Donald Trump and others to overturn the 2020 election enters a more public-facing phase.www.politico.com

I initially felt this news item was worthy of being posted in Breaking News, the sub-forum I most enjoy & prefer. But given that this is an interview with the Committee Chair, not an official announcement by the Chair, along with seeing Politico's bolded heading of "Insurrection Fallout", I thought it might be safer to deposit here - in Political Discussion.

The article is interesting in that it seems the Committee has produced a formalized template to provide DOJ access to its evidence. But besides that, it also discusses how, through the process of discovery, the defendants in current DOJ cases will also gain access to the Committee's work!
I can now see the rational for not earlier having made criminal referrals to DOJ; there's a lot of strategy involved!

Enjoy!

I believe he is mistaken.
How does this “path” differ from a criminal referral?
The link mentions “a greater sense urgency” from the DOJ, what is the procedure if the House turns in November as to the longevity of the 6JAN Committee?
Which the DOJ requested earlier this year, IIRC.It's not a 'formal' referral. It seems to essentially be providing a structure making the material available to the DOJ, as the DOJ may desire.
Quite telling.

Seems like a stand-off was resolved.
It's sad that they are conducting this charade as a criminal investigation of one person. That's never been the purpose of a Congressional Committee.Yes, it seems to me Congress and the DOJ are cooperating in how they go about their respective investigations. The article pointed-out the possible jeopardy the Committee could do to the DOJ cases in progress. They have to be careful in how they do this,
Agreed. It is sad that Trump perpetuated an insurrection on America as an outgoing president, thus causing the needed investigation that serves to both hold Trump accountable and to determine what needs to be done to prevent future trump Traitors from attacking the Capital. It's sad that they are conducting this charade as a criminal investigation of one person. They are just following the facts and if there is a conclusion that a crime(s) has been committed; the DOJ will handle itIt's sad that they are conducting this charade as a criminal investigation of one person. That's never been the purpose of a Congressional Committee.
I believe the only thing DOJ policy says is that it will pause investigations into political candidates 60 days from an election. Trump can announce whatever the hell he wants. He won't be in that window for 2 more years.Imo, the more stuff like this that comes out, the more pressure djt will feel to announce his candidacy. Benghazi. If you don't think they were trying to pin those 4 deaths on her and get her charged; I have a bridge to sell you.
Two and a half years and Gowdy admitted they got nothing
Congressional investigations have a way of stretching from months to years, but the House committee probe into 2012's Benghazi attack was especially lengthy. At two years and four months, it was longer than Congressional probes into 9/11, Watergate, the JFK assassination and Pearl Harbor.
Congress spent more time investigating Benghazi than it did 9/11

Not a standoff, just a disagreement on procedure. We always knew they would work it out.Which the DOJ requested earlier this year, IIRC.

But as usual, you're not being truthful. There are many people from the low life lawyers to the fake electors to senior people in the WH including Mr. One and Done that are all tangled up in the investigation. It may look to you like all their going after is Trump. Stop listening to just Fox and Bannon. It's sad that they are conducting this charade as a criminal investigation of one person. No, we haven't. But to me it's quite clear. JFK was adamant about getting the US out of all the wars. The defense contractors were not at all happy about that. They stood to lose billions. You figure out the rest for yourself.Well, to be fair, unlike the prior probes you mention, the Benghazi probe was dealing with some of our "secret" alphabet soup agencies, and they are not above lying, shredding evidence, obfuscating, providing false testimony and later asserting a mistake of fact, etc..
9/11 was open and obvious. Watergate had it's "deep throat" whistleblower with hard evidence, Pearl Harbor was a CYA investigation. As for the JFK assassination, have we really got all the info on that ever?

So you think they'll send a criminal referral for Ray Epps?Jan. 6 committee has a formal path to share investigative material with DOJ, its chair says

I agree with your conclusion. If djt believes something, that's how he reacts. Reality be damned.I believe the only thing DOJ policy says is that it will pause investigations into political candidates 60 days from an election. Trump can announce whatever the hell he wants. He won't be in that window for 2 more years.
And all it really means is they will cease any public facing investigations/grand juries, etc. It does not mandate they stop investigating. Besides, it's only an OLC opinion just as the opinion that says not to indict any sitting president.
Both opinions, IMHO, need to be studied deeper and perhaps revised. They serve no purpose toward justice.
Why?So you think they'll send a criminal referral for Ray Epps?
August but no day has been specified.Anybody know when the next prime time Jan6 show is supposed to air? I'm hoping they invite Trump's former chief of staff Gen. Kelley to testify. I bet he has some interesting secrets to share (heads up to Liz Cheney).
