Ivanka Trump used a personal email account

Whether or not anything was released that may have been detrimental to national security or not is almost of secondary importance. Ivanka knows very well that her father used the Hillary emails as a weapon for more than 2 years. He would always fall back to it at his rallies because it got his fans excited and lathered up chanting 'lock her up!, lock her up!'. It became like a chant at a high school football game 'run that ball!, run that ball!'.

Ivanka knew this and obviously didn't care, felt like the rules didn't pertain to her and she got careless. This goes right to the very heart of the problem with this entire administration, it's their air of superiority and sense of entitlement. There's a highly exaggerated sense of self-worth in every one of the Trump children. Of course that's not a surprise since they were raised at the knee of the master of arrogance. They have all gotten away with it in private life but government life is much different. There's rules, there's accountability and there's people to answer to no matter how rich you are or who your daddy is.

She said that she didn't know you couldn't use a private email server to send confidential government information. I think thats a fair explanation and we shouldn't harp on it. However Hillary should be LOCKED UP because she used a private email server to send confidential government information. She could have started WW3 if America's enemies - France and Canada - got hold of this information. LOCK HER UP. LOCK HER UP.

Phew. Good thing she didn't have an entire server.

Who are you talking about - Ivanka or Condaleeza Rice? Condaleeza used a private email server you know. So did Colin Powell and Madeline Albright.

It seems that HRC isn't the only one that thought using a personal email account to send government business information was okay. Ivanka was just outed for doing the same thing. Overwhelming hypocrisy. When do we start chanting 'lock her up! lock her up!'?

Ivanka Trump used a personal email account to send hundreds of emails about government business last year

Ivanka Trump sent hundreds of emails last year to White House aides, Cabinet officials and her assistants using a personal account, many of them in violation of federal records rules, according to people familiar with a White House examination of her correspondence.

White House ethics officials learned of Trump’s repeated use of personal email when reviewing emails gathered last fall by five Cabinet agencies to respond to a public records lawsuit. That review revealed that throughout much of 2017, she often discussed or relayed official White House business using a private email account with a domain that she shares with her husband, Jared Kushner.

The discovery alarmed some advisers to President Trump, who feared that his daughter’s practices bore similarities to the personal email use of Hillary Clinton, an issue he made a focus of his 2016 campaign. Trump attacked his Democratic challenger as untrustworthy and dubbed her “Crooked Hillary” for using a personal email account as secretary of state.

Some aides were startled by the volume of Ivanka Trump’s personal emails — and taken aback by her response when questioned about the practice. Trump said she was not familiar with some details of the rules, according to people with knowledge of her reaction.

The White House referred requests for comment to Ivanka Trump’s attorney and ethics counsel, Abbe Lowell.

In a statement, Peter Mirijanian, a spokesman for Lowell, acknowledged that the president’s daughter occasionally used her private email before she was briefed on the rules, but he said none of her messages contained classified information.

...and your problem is?
She is not an elected office holder.
I have a private email account too.
Same thing.

Well, not exactly.
I have ambitions to become Supreme Ruler of the World For Life.
...if my wife lets me.

She's not an elected official but she has performed official government duties. She has met with world leaders and sat in on meetings with her father and intelligence personnel.

Then it was wrong of her to do so.
Only people with a "need to know" should have done that.

If she wants to spread goodwill with generic peaceful overtures, then fine.
But she has no business with the nuts & bolts of government operation.

The only exception I saw the first lady doing this was Eleanore Roosevelt.
She pushed hard to get black fighter pilots in the air.
Once she visited the airfield, picked out one of the graduates for the ranks, and said TAKE ME UP.
White pilots say you guys can't fly.
Prove them wrong.
Take up the first lady.

That was cool.

Two of the most important differences. Besides, Hillary has set a precedent....it's ok to do so and not be held responsible.

What a stupid move on Ivankas part. There is no excuse for this. It was wrong when HRC did it, and it’s wrong now.

That said, the “lock her up” chant was and is asinine. It was callow rhetoric when aimed at the SOS as it is now.

My two cents...

Well, she was held responsible for it and was investigated at length for over two years. The F.B.I. investigation concluded no "reasonable prosecutor" would bring a criminal case against Hillary Clinton, but that she and her aides were "extremely careless" in their handling of classified information.

This shows that her emails were really not such a big deal after all, it was merely used as a political tool against her during the campaign. But it appears that Trump, Ivanka and Jared Kushner believe they live under another set of rules. Jared and Ivanka use private email for government business as does Trump and Ivanka. Despite Trump being criticized for continuing to use his non-secured, non-government phone he continues to do so. All three of them are taking security risks and they are fully aware of it. Our intelligence has stated that Russia and China are listening in when he's not using his secure phone. Trump also spilled classified intelligence information about Israel to the Russians in the Oval Office. He has little, if any, regard for national security.

At least Hillary Clinton wasn't aware that she was doing something that she shouldn't be. It wasn't even protocol or a rule in 2009 before she was sworn in as Secretary of State that government officials must use a government issue secure phone. That

Either Ivanka has balls bigger than King Kong or she this went right over her head. Server or not, how could she not see that her use of personal email would really look bad had it got out publicly?

Actually no. The Bush Administration did. They used a GOP server to conduct official WH business, FFS.

It would be the wiser thing to do to wait to chant 'lock her up' if the investigation proves some wrongdoing on her part?

That is what happened with Hillary and should happen here as well.

I gotta admit, WAPO did their damnedest to try to match what Ivanka did with Hillary.
Of course, a contrast would have been more appropriate but, hell, it's a WAPO headline so the headline makes the story.
