I'm not sure they can stop it altogether. They might be able to argue the president doesn't have to answer to congress, but the staff? Or any other private citizen? Maybe they'll be able to swing a closed-door hearing.

TBH I still wonder if the Dems in congress even have the stones to ask. They've not been the most aggressive bunch in recent years. The wall battle and the Cohen hearing were signs they're willing to push back, but I still fear they can't handle a real fight. The GOP has been down in the mud for many years. I really think that the Democrats are missing out here. Ivanka and Don Jr. have been prepped for this kind of thing. They know what’s coming and they know how to respond. If the Democrats really want to get the inside scoop on how things went down they have to go to someone else who knows everything but hasn’t been prepped.

They need to go after Melania and, if possible, Barron.

Melania is the one who would know everything and once the philandering stuff starts to come out you’d get the “scorned wife” dynamic on top of it. She’d be the one with the most personal incentive to destroy Trump.

The reason to go after Barron is that Trump would never expect that move and would probably cave in a day just to protect him.
