Ivanka Trump and Donald Jr wanted for interviews by House committee - Live

So, I'm wondering how much they can claim as executive privileged information.

Ah, how the right-wing, which used to at least pretend that they were patriotic, now doesn't even pretend that they care about country. There was once a time when a president ordering officials to give his son-in-law security clearance despite concerns about whether that son-in-law was a security risk, would have yielded sharp criticism from the hard-right. Not any longer in Trumpworld.

It's all tribalism -- defend the Fearless Leader at all costs. Orwell called it "reality control" -- our leaders are infallible, and their policies always succeed. If the facts don't fit that assumption, then deny the facts. Reality control doesn't worked as a strategy for governing. Leaders who invent reality, do a bad job of dealing with real reality.

So, there is no news here? A president ordering officials to give his son-in-law security clearance despite concerns by the intelligence staff that are charged with vetting applicants, isn't news?

How anyone can dismiss legitimate security concerns as, 'that's just the bad ole Democrats being mean to Trump,' requires a lethal dose of cognitive dissonance.
 
If Ms. Ivanka and Mr. Donald do appear, they should use this priceless opportunity (vast TV ratings) to put those impertinent House members in their place and to win the sympathy of Independents.


Ms. Ivanka and Mr. Donald can do this by (a) being full of smiles, (b) being respectful of those self-important Democratic inquisitors, (c) never losing their temper or raising their voices, and (d) giving short answers.



This is such a wonderful opportunity to win support for the President and his family that Ms. Ivanka and Mr. Donald should demand that they have a chance to appear before those bullies.

"any way they can" is an interesting substitution for "because he has openly and repeatedly committed criminal and traitorous acts".

I really think that the Democrats are missing out here. Ivanka and Don Jr. have been prepped for this kind of thing. They know what’s coming and they know how to respond. If the Democrats really want to get the inside scoop on how things went down they have to go to someone else who knows everything but hasn’t been prepped.

They need to go after Melania and, if possible, Barron.

Melania is the one who would know everything and once the philandering stuff starts to come out you’d get the “scorned wife” dynamic on top of it. She’d be the one with the most personal incentive to destroy Trump.

The reason to go after Barron is that Trump would never expect that move and would probably cave in a day just to protect him.

If Democrats want to save this country they can’t be afraid of breaking a few eggs and they can’t allow themselves to be stymied by such things as some short term political optics. I mean, seriously, once they get Trump out of office they will be the ones who get to write the history of how it all went down.

I've always contended that pleading the 5th was more of a cowardly way out, but the law and the Constitution affords each of us protection against self-incrimination regardless of our political affiliation. Thus, it's the individual's right to stand behind it despite the fact that when they do the witness is basically saying, "Yeah, I did it but under extraordinary circumstances beyond my control"...or something to that effect. I'll still look sideways at anyone who takes such a plea, but I'll never condemn them for it.

Yeah, but the only way you'd get to either of them would be if someone implicates them in knowing what was going on. Until that happens, you can't just go after the wife or kid just because you think they may know something. That said, I firmly believe that if investigators go after Ivanka and back her into a corner, Trump will do everything in his power to protect her including fall on his sword. She's the one person he'd drop everything for in order to protect.

Daddy's little girl...what father wouldn't come to the rescue for his daughter. "Taken" anyone?
