'COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — It's a book about learning to be yourself and loving who you are, but it's sparking some controversy in a local school district. Some parents told WSYX that the book was given the boot at a Buckeye Valley Local School District — about 40 minutes from Columbus, Ohio — because some thought it could be promoting a gay lifestyle. The issue is getting a lot of talk on social media and some are shocked that a book about a unicorn is at the center of the brewing controversy. ...WSYX got several tips that some expressed concern the book was promoting LGBTQ issues and would not be allowed to be read to kids.

Michelle Mauk— who actually works for the district — was shocked the book would spur a debate. “Is highly disappointing because there’s absolutely no reason for it,” Mauk said.

...WSYX reached out to the district and was sent the following statement: "Buckeye Valley Local Schools has not banned the book 'It's Okay to be a Unicorn!' by Jason Tharp. Mr. Tharp is still scheduled to do his author visit today at our BV West Elementary building, and he is able to present his message to our staff and students. All student artwork will be displayed."

..Mauk told WSYX that district administrators are back-tracking after the backlash. “That was not a decision that was made in this building. That was a decision that was made somewhere up that chain and no one wants to seem to take credit for that,” Mauk said.'

I understand the concern with this book. Kids who become trans or gay are kids who don't feel they fit in, and will identify with the unicorn. This book is essentially grooming kids to become trans or gay.

Kids who don't feel they fit in, for whatever reason, can always turn to their parents or their pastor to teach them to fit in.

The person who wrote this book has made it quite clear that it is only about feeling good about being yourself.

Stop socially engineering children altogether and let them be kids. School systems don't need to be in the business of herding, moderating, or guiding their thoughts and feelings.

Stick to educating them on curriculum. It appears the problem is they'e incapable, since public schools are turning out illiterate dummies who can't solve math problems, read, write or pass a basic test.

Get over yourselves. It doesn't take a village. Nobody wants your stupid village.

Next it'll be The Ugly Duckling.

Did they say what part(s) of the book concerns them?

Culture warriors need to stay out of our schools and the younger the kids the more so. Leave it alone, deal with your own kids, leave others alone.

More clichés in this post than in ten minutes of Fox News.

No unicorn book then?

They don't even have kids. ...probably part of the problem.

Next it'll be The Ugly Duckling.
I know the lineage of that story. The claim is that Hans Christian Anderson wrote it and published it in 1842. In fact, the gay mafia of Copenhagen coerced publication by threatening to out C.A Reitzel

The guy was sleeping with half the boytoys in Copehagen's leather scene. The Gay Liberation Front know what we want, and we are patient enough to wait as long as we need to to get our propaganda where it will be effective. HehHehHehHeh.

This is what lives in the heads of some cons rent free - the ever present threat of gays/transgenders looking to turn their precious littles to the dark side at every turn.

You're for banning a book about a unicorn?

The problem is that THAT is all you're focused on.

I'm for education, not social engineering. Children need to be educated, not coddled, cuddled, and molded into a unicorn.
Every metric known shows us trailing at least a dozen other nations.

Guess what? ^^These are all left-leaning news sources so can't cry about it to your Unicorn.
