Throughout President Obama’s run for presidency and currently, many citizens have been very critical to the point of new heights not seen prior for any president.

From being deemed a socialist or wanting to turn America into a welfare state, President Obama has had his share of displeasure from various citizens.

I will not debate now if his criticism has been valid or not. I will pose a simple question instead.

In America, racism has been around for a long time; no one debates this. The criticism I have read and actually responded toward at times, seemed to not be targeted at President Obama’s policies and leadership. This criticism seemed to be stemming from his tone of skin only. Anyone can throw out terms like socialist that wasn’t fully understood and see this is being critical; without undertones.

However in America, isn’t it more acceptable to simply come out and say, I disapprove of our current president because of his tone of skin and not his politics?

I ask many in this country, why continue to use undertones instead of making it publicly known, many in America will never support President Obama because of tone of skin.

I personally believe any American who wishes for an acting president to fail is not healthy for this great land and should leave.

However I ask many Americans and users on this site to simply say you disapprove of President Obama because he doesn’t have the tone of skin you would approve to be president.

Simple but to the point and understandable than to throw he is a socialist wanting to turn America into a welfare state for example.

Thank you

I don't think I've ever actually heard someone attack him for the color of his skin. I'm sure that's an underlying, perhaps even subconscious, reason for many, but it's definitely not a majority and I don't see how it's relevant anyway.'

And how come being half black makes you black, anyway? If I call him a white president, people look at me funny.

Tiger Woods: Black golfer. Not asian golfer.

Black genes are stronger genes, apparently.

i am sure that it is a constituent of the most virulent attacks ('criticism' is inaccurate).

no, bigotry is stronger than reason. It is known as the 'one-drop' rule (also known by the pseudo-scientific term 'hypodescent')- one drop of black blood makes you a black person. It even has had legal status in many states... in virginia it was known as the Racial Integrity Act. Sounds rather hitlerian, dunnit?

any one who thinks that racism does not play a part in the vitriolic hate speech towards this president is probably lying to himself.

And anyone who denies that the vast majority of people opposed to Obama are motivated by things other than racism is equally deluded.

I remember the arguments before the election . . .

"If he wins, every criticism is going to be called 'racism.'"

"How can you say that? NO IT WON'T!!!!" Then, it would often be coupled with a harangue about how liberals are intellectual and open-minded and would never stoop to such "Rethuglican"-style dishonesty.

Note: I am not saying all liberals do what our new friend here does. But there's sure a lot of it to be found.

heheheheh...

I LOVE the way you think..

'people who think opposition to obama is based on racism AND people who think that is untrue are BOTH deluded.

the apple is on red and the apple is not red.

explains a LOT of your posts.

There's a middle ground between "racism plays a part in the opposition to Obama" and "the vast majority of people opposed to Obama are motivated by things other than racism."

Absolutism!

I never stated to make this into a Left versus Right argument. I never stated all who oppose the president are indeed racist. I asked folks to openly state they are racist due to the presidents tone of skin and will never accept him as our national leader as present and thereafter.

To be blind is seeing this as a Left versus Right argument. However the psychology still remains. Please do not use baseless arguments that take away from my original thread.

"I'm not calling you racists -- I want you do that yourselves!"

Um...okay.

1. Not everyone who holds racist views towards Obama is aware that they hold those views. You can be racist and not know it.
2. Even everyone who voted for and has supported Obama does not necessarily agree with every policy and action he puts forth.
3. It is perfectly possible to disagree with the way Obama is running the country with it having nothing to do with the color of his skin.
4. Anyone who bases greater weight on the color of a man's skn, than the content of his character is an embarrassment to this country. That goes for whether you hate Obama just because he is black or you support him just because he is black.

I am a green eyed, fair skinned white man that has lived on the east coast, west coast, the deep south, Texas and the desert southwest during my nearly 46 years on this planet. All my friends are either Caucasian or Hispanic, because there are very few black people in the town where I'm living. There are a few local white guys here that I consider to be at least somewhat prejudice toward black people, based on a few slurs I've heard them utter over the years. Because of my job, I encounter a lot of people every week from a variety of backgrounds, and politics is one of the things that comes up often in conversation.

I'm here to tell you right now that of the dozens, if not hundreds, of different conversations I have engaged in over the last year that centered around politics and criticism of President Obama, not one of them was based on the color of his skin... NOT ONE! This even includes a conversation with one of the people I heard use racial slurs in the past. The criticism of Obama, is the same criticism I hear toward members of his administration as well as the democrats on capitol hill. It's all based on policy, lack of economic results, ideological differences, and a fundamental disagreement with the direction they're taking the country in. Race has never played even a small part in the equation whether I'm talking with friends, acquaintances or people I just met through my work. If underlying racism was as predominant in the criticism of Obama as you claim it to be, I would have encountered it dozens of times by now. The fact is I haven't encountered it, because it's not prevalent.

Obama is farther to the left of any president in my lifetime hands down, and that's why so many people are critical of him and his agenda. The color of his skin doesn't mean jack ****... If it did, he would have never been elected in the first place. It's time for you people to retire that race card because it's not only been used and abused to death, it doesn't even apply.

yes there is and there is room for argument. but that those who believe "A" is true are deluded and those who think "A" is untrue are deluded is self contradictory.

it was just a matter of not taking the time to unravel it... but it sounded funny, that's all.,

I only criticize his policies and decisions.

His race is the one thing that I'm happy about. His election opened the door for future generation of Americans and showed us that the color of your skin is no longer a factor in becoming president.

I wonder if Romney being a Mormon would have a harder time being elected becuase of his religion. Same for Obama if he stated he was a Muslim ( not saying he is).

I'm going to start by saying that this technique is meant to act as a race pimping technique, this is used to make sure that regardless of the issue that there are racial overtones. To push racial division.

No, I mainly supported a black women in that election, but I didn't care about the color of skin... I cared about the issues that they represent. Obama was sold on his personality, and the slogan "Hope and Change" ... Now, even a google search "Obama" gives news, wiki and then anti-Obama youtube videos... one of them called "Obama deception"

The reason that Obama is so tremendously unpopular is that his actions are of someone that's bought off just like any other politician.... think about it "free healthcare" turned into "Obamacare" after congress et all were not allowed to read the bill before passing it.They did not write the bill they didn't read either... that was written by insurance companies.

He promised to be anti-war, in a year, in 18 months, in 36 months, we pulled out the troops......... and replaced them with mercenaries, etc

He passed a bailout / takeover of the auto industry, of the healthcare industy, of the banking industry, of the fishing industry (with the bp spill)...

Are you starting to see a trend of where this might be headed... and possible reasons a greater number of people are disapproving of his performance, and in polls has been even dropping liberal support in some cases.

Finally, the only people talking about race at the tea parties are people that have something to gain from 'catching' racists.

And anyone who denies that the vast majority of people opposed to Obama are motivated by things other than racism is equally deluded.

What was the opposition to George Bush based on?

I'm thinking this is just a false flag operation to try and paint Obama supporters in a bad light by suggesting they just see their opponets as racists.

What was the opposition to George Bush based on?

Probably the same things most opposition to Obama is based on - his policies, his party, and his personality.

horse****.

you make a credible criticism of policy... it is a policy debate.

you make a credible criticism of ideology... it is an ideological debate.

the overwhelming 'criticisms' you read here and hear all over are not criticisms at all but unfounded accusations of 'socialism', 'takeover', deception.... one poster here calls a man who has spent his young life working at making life better for poor folk, earning a his degree in (and lecturing on) Constitutional law serving in the senate and now president as unamerican. hell, read your own bloody post.... accusations without a fragment of substance. it is not simply the opposition to the man, it is the virulence, the hatred.

yeah... i see a trend. i see a trend of propaganda with the obvious intent of smearing an honorable man. the intent is open to speculation.

Is it because all these people hate black folk? no, i do not think so. Is the fact that he is the first black president a factor? does the undercurrent of distrust of black men that has been a staple of this culture for 600 years have anything to do with it? are there folks out there, concious of how easy it is to trip that latent fear and distrust making use of it for political gain?

i would say that it is a pretty good bet.

The internet is rife with images of the president as a witch doctor, an ape.Characterizations of his WIFE as a 'national geographic model', a descendant of a zoo gorilla. One S.C. GOP activist jokes ""I just heard Obama was going to impose a 40% tax on aspirin because it's white and it works.", in Va, another claims that "the Obama family [in africa] can skim enough to allow them to free their goats and live the American Dream."

a texas football player says ""all the hunters gather up, we have a nigger in the whitehouse." we have portraits of him as white eyes on a black background, as a donkey surrounded by watermelon, fried chicken,

A Rep representative says "Republicans are struggling right now to find the great white hope.", another from KY. calls him "boy".

Beck, in a stunningly cynical attempt to turn the tables, called him a racist. On what basis?

and that is just the stuff that makes the news. Email, twitters... not policy, race. I was talking to a fella the other day while composing a post for this forum about water rights, he a La rancher. When he called the president 'ears'... well, so what. When he called him a coon, the discussion ended.

so, yeah, when i hear accusations and insults rather than criticism, the possibility of racism becomes pretty evident.

geo.

Welcome to Debate Politics! We will argue anything.

However, my only real criticism for Obama is that he compromises too easily and doesn't really fight for the future of this country.

i agree...except that I do not think he fails so much as he plays his hand a little too conservatively. in the Health Care debate, f'r instance. he would have done better to support the original House bill... and lose. Now... we have a MORE powerful insurance industry, MORE expensive insurance (here in Ca, the rates have risen as much as 300% in the last year) no options and an empowered GOP. Losing for good reasons is better than winning for bad ones.

Yeah, sure. Like there is not much to criticize Obama about so racism has to be the motive.
