It's too easy now to hide behind a key board and bash the president or congress or a particular party. Social media polarizes the country politically, it's so easy to have an extreme opinion and no one necessarily has to know who you are. You see these extremes on youtube comments, forums like this, and newspaper article comments. Not saying this is a bad thing, but it's a lot easier to express powerful opinions when your anonymous.

So I really think all politicians from this point on will generally have less support just because so many people can more easily write negative things about them, and once you start reading a lot of negative things about someone, you start to doubt the person.

In previous times they didn't have the education or information network to fully understand how big of assholes their presidents were.

We in the digital age have the privilege of knowing exactly how big of an asshole he is.

There is that, a lot of truth to what you say. But it isn't only that. Because of those same media we know more about people's lives from womb to tomb than we ever did. No one remembers that I won my elementary school costume pageant by dressing as a woman, but had I been born later the world would have access to that info. :3oops:

We're going to start having younger and younger presidents -- catching them before they've turned into assholes.

Hopefully.

I'm not sure that's possible to have a non-asshole POTUS. Pretty much have to be to survive the gauntlet.

People used to not know anything really of what was going on. Controversial bills were passed, and nobody probably tracked them. Politicians got away with even more than they do now. No wonder they called it the "good old days".

Who, but an asshole, would try to raise $1 billion to apply for a job that pays $500K/year for 4 years? ;)

Well, our current one is pretty young and...........

On one hand I hate the fact that these negative pundits have become so successful and particularly hate the fact that the main incentive is money.

But on the other hand .....I think this romance many have with many of our previous Presidents was partly because people didn't have this technology to tell the truth.

These God-dam founding fathers people today speak so fondly of ....as if they were some angels who dropped from the sky ....and to date we can never mind men like that today is one big fat lie!! Anything you see happening today ....multiply that by 100000 for those men back then when no one had any idea what they were really like. Pedophile, rapist, murderers, thieves.....believe any and all of it...because what would somebody who owned slaved wouldn't do?

before the age of digital media the big 3 CBS NBC and ABC controlled the narrative and it i was always liberal.
Now that narrative is being challenged by digital media and Fox news. the informed the ones who want to know the truth are getting the truth, and that is where the divide is. it is between the low information voter that still get their misinformation from the alphabet networks 10 sec sound bites and the headlines off of liberal rags like the NY Times, And the ones who who are getting sick of the propaganda spewed by the liberal media and found the truth else where
This is why the left hate Fox news and has spent millions in attempt to discredit them which has failed miserably.
they are so f-ing scared that the low information voter will becomes informed and when enough of them become informed that is it, the left will slowly whether away just like communism is.
ever wonder way socialist/communist countries generally have limited freedom of the press and speech and have state run media ?

They were men of their times. We don't say they were Angels,we simply say they were very wise to be able to come up with a system that has served us well for so long. Of course, people that hate limited government and individual responsibility will not like them.
