It turns out GOP senators were totally OK with Trump judicial nominees who had handed out reduced child pornography sentences

The biggest issue that has been raised in the senate confirmation hearings for judge Ketanji Brown has been that she was too lenient with sentences for child pornographers. In another sign of glaring GOP hypocrisy, it turns out the senators were just fine with any Trump appointees who did the same, and did not even raise the issue.

“ The White House is targeting Republican Senate Judiciary Committee members who went after Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson this week for her sentences in some child pornography cases, saying those same members backed judges nominated by then-President Donald Trump who also imposed sentences below those sought by prosecutors or suggested by guidelines.

The pushback comes after Jackson spent more than 22 hours before the Senate Judiciary Committee this week and Republicans including Sens. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Ted Cruz of Texas and Josh Hawley of Missouri repeatedly suggested that she had been too lenient in sentencing. Supporters of Jackson have complained that Democrats didn’t do enough to put the attacks into context and highlight evidence that she was in line with other federal judges on the issue at a time when guidelines are outdated.

“Tellingly, the same GOP senators who have leveled these smears voted for Trump-nominated judges who sentenced the exact same crime in the same fashion – below guidelines that are widely considered out of date and below sentences sought by the prosecution, as is the norm,” White House spokesman Andrew Bates said Thursday.

“These members are not only smearing Judge Jackson – they are excoriating their own records,” Bates said. “Quantitatively, Judge Jackson departs from the guidelines by less than the average judge.” “

Hypocrisy, thy name is GOP.

Just yet another point of proof that everything republicans say is projection. They have pedophiles that run and get elected, and rapists and ***** grabbers who are not asked to step down. Projection

They are desperate to find anything, anything at all, to try and discredit her impeccable credentials and unquestionable integrity.

Yeah, they want integrity, kinda like this:

"I like beer. Do you like beer, senator?"

"No way!"

"Way!"

"Like, Shaa! Excellent! Party on, dudes- professionalism and integrity, all the way to the Supreme Court!"

I'd like to add some additional hypocrisy. The four mental mites (Cotton, Cruz, Graham, Hawley) didn't even show up for day 4 of the hearings. It gets even worse. This image shows cruz searching twitter for his name after he questioned Judge Jackson.

"Senator Ted Cruz went full Ted Cruz during the confirmation hearings of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson Wednesday afternoon and followed his performative arguments with fellow senators and absurd questions of the Supreme Court nominee in the most Ted Cruz way possible: checking Twitter for his mentions."

They are desperate to find anything, anything at all, to try and discredit her impeccable credentials and unquestionable integrity.
Because their real issue is simply whether the judge will corruptly support their abusing their power to destroy the law to help the wealthy interests. That's it.

Ever since the advent of Donald J. Trump in 2016 the Republican Party is the party of fools, and they are being led by fools.

Case in point, the confirmation hearings of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson who has been nominated for the Supreme Court. A solemn occasion, of course, even if Republican Senators are making fools of themselves.

It would be laughable if it weren't so disheartening to see U.S. Senators act this way.

The Guardian explains, "At 2.54pm on the second day of Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation hearings that will determine whether she takes a seat on the US supreme court, the solemn proceedings took a nosedive into farce.

"Ted Cruz, the Republican senator from Texas, turned theatrically to an outsized blow-up of a children’s book, Antiracist Baby by Ibram X Kendi. Pointing to a cartoon from its pages of an infant in diapers taking their first walk, he asked Jackson: “Do you agree with this book … that babies are racist?”

“Senator,” Jackson began with a sigh. And then she paused for seven full seconds, which in the august setting of the Senate judiciary committee hearing felt like a year."

Viewers knew exactly what Jackson wanted to say, but couldn't because she respected the august setting. "Senator, you are a freaking idiot."

"Here she was, aged 51, with almost a decade’s experience as a federal judge behind her and, if confirmed, the history-making distinction of becoming the first Black woman to sit on the nation’s highest court ahead of her. And she was being asked whether babies were racist?" The Guardian.

Flabbergasted, she finally was able to blurt out, “I have not reviewed any of those books,” she said. “They don’t come up in my work as a judge, which I’m respectfully here to address.”

Undaunted, largely because he was clueless, Cruz chose to focus on critical race theory (CRT), the years-old academic theory that had become the latest conservative hot-button issue in Texas.

Trying desperately to be patient with the mindless Senator, "Again, she stressed, this was a subject that had absolutely nothing to do with her work – or by implication, the job of a supreme court justice."

Lindsey Graham, the Republican senator from South Carolina, who had stomped out of the hearing earlier wrongly accused Jackson of having called George W Bush and the former defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld “war criminals.”

Marsha Blackburn, Republican senator from Tennessee, asked Jackson whether she could “provide a definition for the word "woman."

According to The Guardian, Senator Chuck Grassley, the top Republican in the judiciary committee, promised at the start of the hearings, there would be no “spectacle” or “political circus” coming from his side of the aisle.

I am not sure folks like Cruz and Hawley are really that clueless. They are just putting on a show for their voters. They have to ask the kind of things that are on their voters' minds, and which these folks back home would like- so it's hard to come across as anything but comically ignorant, stupid, and bigoted to the rest of us. But hey, that keeps them getting reelected to some pretty powerful positions- so who's really getting the last laugh?

Just for the heck of it, you might want to take a look at

paying special attention to

to see how those Commie Fascists in Canada pack their so-called "independent" courts with totally unqualified political hacks who can be counted on to "vote the party platform" REGARDLESS of the facts and the law.

No, they are definitely NOT clueless. They are people that have no morals, ethics, principles or humanity and are out for themselves. They are the party that believes in individual freedom-of-choice that means they care about themselves first and second and then third again.

The me, me, me party.

Yep- during Covid they were basically fighting for their freedom to kill and sicken others just so they don’t have the deal with the inconvenience of wearing a mask.

It doesn't take much digging to show that Republicans fall lockstep in line for totally hypocritical nonsense as long as it appears to suit them at the time.

It is very disappointing to watch Republicans turn something which should be treated as their duty to the country into something partisan. There is nothing wrong with Judge Jackson. She has a stellar record, and was already confirmed by the Senate previously. None of these issues being brought up are anything new since her previous confirmation.

Republicans have no shame, no integrity. Democrats actually consider the nominee. Republicans only consider party politics in nearly everything they do.

Republicans showed how little they care about their duty to America when they refused to look at the evidence against Donald Trump in both impeachments. They were straight up prejudiced. They could have voted before either trial. Most of them already had their minds made up before each impeachment trial began.

We know that Trump is guilty of insurrection because even with such strong party politics, more of his own party voted to convict than has ever happened in any impeachment in history. Trump holds the record of getting the most of his own party to vote for conviction. Too bad it wasn't quite enough to convict. He deserved it. Even McConnell said it was clear he did it, but then voted to acquit.

Yes politicians get caught in hypocrisy all the time. Every time I point out a left wing hypocrite, it's an incredibly rare occurrence on this board that a leftist will acknowledge it like I just did about the right.

There is always deflection and whataboutism.

They are nowhere even close to the same thing.

Pointing out Trump’s 30,000+ lies- dangerous, vicious, insulting lies, deliberately meant to create fear, rage, division, and hate in the country for personal gain- are not the same as Obama once saying, in his efforts to drop the uninsured rate in this country to the lowest level in its history, that if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor, and then finding a few people on Fox News whose doctor happened to drop their insurance.

Which is irrelevant to my statement. I'd didn't say they were the same

I can only shake my head at your liberal naiveté. The Trump GOP makes no claims to moral superiority, and, as with pathological lying, being a hypocrite is a badge of honor among us - the more the better.

The essence of the "Republican" (whatever that means) position is

It is absolutely unforgivable, totally unconscionable, and completely disqualifying as a Supreme Court judge for someone nominated by a Democrat to do such things
which are perfectly acceptable for a judge appointed by a Republican to do.

At one time "Parti Rhinocéros Party" adopted as a campaign plank that it would give Senate seats away as lottery prizes. Not only would that raise money for the government, but it wouldn't greatly reduce the chances of the people whose ways are already being greased into office by massive infusions of money becoming Senators. It might also increase the general competence and desire to serve the best interests of the entire country from the level that the members of the US Senate currently display.

PS - Lotteries are one hell of a lot cheaper to run than elections and you don't have to put up with a bunch of bullshit rhetoric in the ads for them.
