THe doors with don't you love her madly

Number 1900, a song that was on many of my mix tapes and CD's. During the time that I still had to go to the library and rip the CDs for personal use only. From 1973 it's Ballroom Blitz by the Sweet

Very appropriate on this day of the year

Those modrockers of Slade with Merry Xmas Everybody from 1973

Maybe not my style but this is a song that I did like, from 2001, Mrs. Jackson by Outkast

If anybody sees one of their favorite numbers in the 200 songs posted so far, please say which song and from what number it comes from.

Beatles or Stones, that is a very well known question, for me it is Beatles all the way, even when they went solo.

So here is a Beatles song but one that I did not know but it does sound very nice, from the Revolver Album it is the Beatles with For No One

Found at place number 1834.

The next artist died in October in 2017, a great loss IMHO, I loved him and his bands. He was great with the Heartbreakers and with the Traveling Wilburys. It is Tom Petty from 1980, the song is called Refugee

That can be found at number 1821

Also a great song can be found at 1804, Tracy Chapman's Talkin' Bout A Revolution from 1988

The song I selected for you first is a nostalgic song, it is by a long dead artist called Rene Klijn who got aids in a time when the disease was still a death sentence. Already a member of a Dutch boy band he contracted aids ad was a guest in one of the most memorable episodes of Schreeuw van de Leeuw (roar of the Lion as the presenter is called Paul de Leeuw, and in Dutch Leeuw translates to Lion). The Schreeuw van de leeuw was both entertainment and culturally relevant because it talked about difficult subject without judging or molly coddling people. Once he had a show about blindness and as a stage he had a mountain, an actual mountain his guests had to climb.

But again, Rene Klijn who would still be alive if he were born in this day and, thank goodness for medical progress.

The song reached number 1788 and it was released in 1993

Talking about youth sentiment, I can remember how I used to go to a club in Sittard called the Fenix, dark, dingy, normally a youth center but every Saturday night the weird and the youthful different people streamed to it (and with streamed I am talking about less than 200) to listen to music that was not really the norm in must clubs because it was not disco or poppy enough. So from that time of youthful feelings of shyness and awkwardness, it is the sound of 1984, at number 1772 it is Ultravox with Dancing with Tears in my eyes

Now from my all time favorite artist, Elvis Presley, Heartbreak Hotel

Number 1762 from 1956

Now for something Dutch, well because I am Dutch and this is a Dutch list. But don't worry, it is in English so everybody will be able to understand (I hope LOL). It is Anouk with Sacrifice. And I choose a live version because the studio version does not show off her voice properly enough and live is with good artists always better IMHO

At spot 1739 and it is from 1998

Also a very nice song, one of the favorite songs from my mother, brought out in 1972 and on the 1719th spot in the list we find Sylvia's Mother by Dr Hook & The Medicine Show.

And to be honest, I think it is a very good song too. My mother has always been my example teacher about music during my early years. Even though I have gone a bit further than her with my love of Metal and hard rock.

Even though I love most things metal/hard rock (at least from my younger days), it isn't everything metal that interested me. One of my favorite performers is Billy Joel. The first song I heard from him was goodnight Saigon (will come up later in the list) but from that moment on I started listening to a lot of his songs and this song is awesome and a free history lesson at the same time

At number 1714 we find We didn't start the Fire by Billy Joel (from 1989).

No top 2000 should be without this song by Natalie Imbruglia, it is her song Torn from 1997 and she is found at number 1712. Great song and a great voice IMO.

Also a favorite of my mother, it is just a funny song and video, and often played during the Christmas time, at least in my house/my country.

at number1620 we find the amusing We All Stand Together by Sir Paul McCartney & Frog Chorus (1985)

A nice song is

By the peculiar Lady Gaga and Poker Face (spot number 1659, the song being from 2009)

A very good sing can be found on spot number 1638, the singer is Jewel and the song is called Foolish Game (1997)

Now I can indulge a bit in my Presley mania, with one of his most beautiful songs, it can be found one spot higher than Jewel, it is the everlasting classic, American Trilogy recorded in 1972

And yes, I can sing this song line for line word for word with the song, it is just an awesome song IMHO. He is not the King for any old reason. My name is not King of course, it is very hard to pronounce and even written down it sounds just weird, so I chosen an English name and for 2 reasons I choose King, for one because of Elvis, the King of Rock and Roll and also for Stephen King who is my favorite writer by a country mile. So I combined my first name Peter with King and hence the name Peter King.

The last song I ever purchased by Metallica can be found on spot 1630, it was from 1997 and the song is called the memory remains

Personally by this time I found Metallica to have become too commercial. Too poppy for my liking.

What I like about Metallica is songs up to the Black Album. The black album was OK but already bordering too much on poppy. Songs like Blitzkrieg, hit the lights, Metal militia, Jump in the Fire, etc. etc. etc. Speed metal up your backsides so to speak.

The Rock continues with one of my favorite van Halen songs, Why Can't This Be Love with Sammy as the vocalist, great song and yes, I know I complained about Metallica getting to poppy but I never expected speed metal from Van Halen to begin with so this song is fine for them. It is from 1987 and it reached number 1621

It may sound like totally not my style, I love this song from time to time. I am not going to put it on mix tapes but I do love the sound.

Well the first song is from the biggest band ever made, a real super band if there ever was one. Members of ELO, the Beatles, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and the individual brilliance of Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan, it truly was the one and only superband.

It is the The Traveling Wilburys with Handle with Care

Great band and one of my favorite songs of them

1473 is the number they are this year, it is Nirvana and In Bloom from 1991.

This one is from the time when I still bought 45-singles, again from my misspent youth LOL

It's Don't Answer Me by the Alan Parsons Project from 1984

This song is a great song and stars the star of Angel and Buffy (later from Bones), the great David Boreanaz

Again, from the single buying era where I had to go on my bike to buy it from a "record store", even one with the stupid and very incorrectly named "freerecord store" because I had to pay for my records LOL

A fluff song really but to this day one of my favorites

From the local region I came from it is Limburgs own Rowwen Heze

But this version is one they played together with the band that gave them the tune to their song Bestel Mar (bestel mar is - go and order at the bar).

Another song from the strange band that is the Cure

At that time they made a few really nice songs.

And this song just had to go here, even if just to remember the late great singer of this band who died living the rock and roll lifestyle. Australian and great hard rock giants ACDC and one of my life's motto's

LET THERE BE ROCK

My mother is about to to 78 but when she hears this song she starts bopping and moving her body

A man that know great tragedy in his way too short life, with his sunglasses and his peculiar voice, he still made great music

The lady on this song is still alive and going strong (even though the song was from 1977) but Frans Halsema died not too long after this song. The English translation I will post below it

https://lyricstranslate.com/en/vluchten-kan-niet-meer-theres-no-escape-anymore.html

There's no escape anymore
There's no escape anymore, I wouldn't know how
There's no escape anymore, I wouldn't know to where
How far do you have to go
The countries far away are countries at war
countries of Security Council's meetings, countries of defoliation, tourists' beaches.
How far do you have to go
There's no escape anymore

There's no escape anymore, I wouldn't know where
Only seeking shelter is an option, seeking shelter with each other

There's no escape anymore, it's no use
There's no escape anymore, I wouldn't know in where
How far do you have to go
in business or work, or in discipline
in Ying or in Yang or in heroin
in status en car and making money
How far do you have to go
There's no escape anymore

Here in Holland, the last butterfly dies on top of the very last flower.
And all music that lasts is the supersonic boom

There's no escape anymore, I wouldn't know where
Seeking shelter is still possible, very close to each other
We make our own little alternative
with or without a marriage certificate
My love, my love, what more do you want
There's no escape anymore (2x)

The next song makes my skin crawl when I hear it (in a good way)

A real Christmas song in this season of light and friends and family

Yet another Christmas song but with a dark twist, sung by one of the Netherlands most famous caberet performers

It was Christmas morning 1961
I still remember it so well, my rabbit's cage was empty
And mother said that I wasn't allowed in the shed
And if I'd play sweetly, I would get some goodies
She had no clue either where Flappie could be
She would ask daddy, but because he was busy
In that bike shed, I should look for Flappie for another hour
He must certainly be somewhere on the grass

But I did lock the cage securily
Like I did every evening
I even went back last night
I don't even know why I did that
I had stood in front of the cage for a long while
As if I knew then what I know now

It was the first day of Christmas 1961
We were searching for Flappie, and dad just searched along
Near the trees and the water, but not in that bike shed
'Because he couldn't be in there?' And I shook 'no'
We searched together, together until it was time for coffee
The family having coffee, but I didn't want anything
I was thinking of Flappie and how cold and freezing it could be at night
My head hung down quietly, crying fat tears of sorrow

Because I did lock the cage securily
Like I did every evening
I even went back last night
I don't even know why I did that
I had stood in front of the cage for a long while
As if I knew then what I know now

It was the first day of Christmas 1961
Dinner was noisy, but it didn't bother me much
I was thinking of Flappie, my own little Flappie
Where could he be? I couldn't eat a bite
When after the soup the main course'd arrive
My dad said extremely funny: "Look Youp, here is Flappie!"
I still see that silver tray and there he was in three pieces
For the first time I saw my dad as a horrible man!

And I went to bed shrieking and pounding
First spend an hour crying on the covers
Stood cursing at the top of the stairs one last time
And screamed: "Flappie was mine!"
Stood in front of the window for a very long while
But the cage just stood there forlorn

It was the second day of Christmas 1961
Mother still remembers it so well, dad's bed was empty
And I said that she wasn't allowed in the shed
And if she'd play sweetly, she would get some goodies

And now for another song I like but is really not my style because I really don't like a lot of "dance music/rap/whatever this is LOL"

Is this ever a great song, Tina Turner is one awesome lady

For me this is reasonably new music (as I am a bit archaic when it comes to liking music ;) ) it is a good song but the video is great IMHO

The next song has one of the greatest music video's I had ever seen. I even went so far as to tape it on my VHS. Which was a big thing then because it was 1986 and I had to wait for quite some time to get the taping perfectly as it was 1986 and I only had one music station and most of the stuff on there was boring (IMO)

I really watched the movie where this song comes from a lot of times. I had the video, the album and several of the singles that came from that album. Sadly no longer with us. His music might not have been my taste anymore in the later years of his career but I still go "crazy" about how good he was at this time when this song came out

People will remember you better if you always wear the same outfit...”
— David Byrne

Great band, good song, weird dude but good singer.

A bit of cross over hard rock/metal with something else, you determine what it is but what I know is that it is a great song

Now a bit of cartoon fun, but still funny. It is "In a garden of Eden" by I. Ron Butterfly

For people interested in the real version, it can be found here and it is definitely "Rock and or Roll"

This song takes me back, in fact to 1990, before I went virtually full hard rock and heavy metal

Two songs from one band, virtually equally evenly voted on by people. One on spot 1196 and one on spot number 1194. From a great rock and roll icon playing the bass/singer.

The first one was later very successfully covered by Metallica

The next one is their biggest hit as far as I know and it is a kickass song

Next is what to the best of my knowledge was a great hit in the Netherlands, the beautiful and great singer Kim Wilde with
