It is time for Ukraine to announce that if struck by a weapon of mass destruction they will retaliate in kind.

Russia has abrogated the agreement where Ukraine gave up it's nuclear weapons. Ukraine should say some were overlooked and have been refurbished and available if required.

What makes you think Ukraine would have WMD they could use against Russia if provoked?
Do you know something the rest of the world does not?

As a deterrent.
With all the propaganda Russia is pushing to their internal audience about how the majority of every person in Ukraine are Nazis, that might just give them enough support to first-strike Ukraine with their own nuclear weapons.
But that would probably piss off it's neighbors.

As a deterrent.
Making shit up as a deterrent !! ?? The Russians were instrumental in removing and/or destroying Ukraine's weapons. In fact, Ukraine never had operational control of them even back when it was an SSR. The Russian's KNOW they don't have any!!

What an ignorant thread cap, on so many levels.

Why don't we just start lobbing nukes now? Will that make you happy?

Do they? Or did they get them somewhere else since they lost Crimea? It is the uncertainty that creates the deterrent.

If Russia uses nuclear weapons, Ukraine has the right to use anything it has in retaliation.

Of course, I do not know what it does have, but if what it does have can reach Russian cities, then it should be used.

Since a lot of Russians apparently support the Butcher's actions, let those Russians suffer as their "president" has made thousands of Ukrainians suffer.

Ukrainians should never, ever forgive Russia for the indescribable misery caused by that war criminal and butcher.

No foreign leader should ever talk with that Butcher again.

The point is that Russia is threatening the West if it retaliates against a WMD strike against Ukraine. That dynamic changes if Ukraine could possibly retaliate.

Someone still thinks nuclear deterrence makes sense. Moderates for mutually assured destruction.

Are you serious? Russia said that?
Someone needs to read a bedtime story to Putin: The Boy Who Cried Wolf.

Sense or not, that is all there is. What do suggest that will keep Russia from using WMDs in Ukraine?

You gotta time machine? We could go back and change what the USG has done for the past 50 years or so- that might help.

Vladimir Putin established the threat of nuclear war from the very beginning of his bloody invasion into Ukraine: “No matter who tries to stand in our way or all the more so create threats for our country and our people, they must know that Russia will respond immediately,” the dictator said a month ago. “And the consequences will be such as you have never seen in your entire history.”

Is that practical?

There is no uncertainty.
To pretend that the USSR and then Russia didn’t know exactly how many nukes they had and that they just misplaced one in Ukraine and don’t realize is is simply silly.

Have to wonder about the knowledge base of the people who come up with these ideas.

Bro what kind of half-cocked bullshit idea is this. The Russians (and former Soviets) have a firm accounting of their entire goddamn inventory. The would be grossly negligent not to have done so.

Erm, Nukes aren't the sort of thing you can just hide.
I'm pretty sure Russia would have exact knowledge of how many nukes and where they were when they told Ukraine to give them back.

I'd be bloody amazed if they just let a few go missing.

How many nukes does Israel have?

Russia, Israel, Pakistan, India, Saddam Hussein, North Korea, China, Iran, The US. You trust that they are all accounted for? No boxes that now contain bricks? Governments and bureaucracies don't have a good track record.

Since around 1950, somewhere in the order of thirty-two nuclear incidents occurred which could be classed as Broken Arrow. The United States has lost somewhere in the order of 6, or so, but this is only the tip of the iceberg. Other nuclear powers, like the former Soviet Union, have also lost their fair share.Dec 19, 2021

Of course, this idea is ignoring the obvious fact that if the Russians DO buy it, they have no reason not to vaporize Kiev before the Ukrainians “get desperate enough to use their “nukes””.

It’s utterly hairbrained.

If Ukraine had nukes, don't you think they would've pulled that card out by now instead of having land mass the size of the UK being torn from them?
