Today, May 8(May 9 in Russia and Eastern Europe) the forces of Nazi Germany formally surrendered following the capture of Berlin by Soviet troops and the collapse of the last remnants of the German war effort.

The surrender brought an end to years of fighting in Europe and the genocidal slaughter of millions upon millions of people as the Germans carried out the Holocaust and their “Great Crusade Against Bolshevism”.

While the war against Japan would rage on for several more bloody months, the defeat of Germany and it’s collaborators is well worth celebrating.

The hope for a Europe free of war remains a dream.

Big thanks to any survivors of the Greatest Generation.

Just a bunch of kids out of high school that were asked to save the world from tyranny, and they responded magnificently.
