The CDC has been wrong more often than Fausti and has lied and deceived and withheld material facts even more than that. Trusting them is like trusting Xi not to tell Putin what Biden told him.

I think Omicron ended up being a blessing in disguise. More of the world has immunity now and probable protection from future variants. We got lucky it was more contagious but less severe. Given our weak vaccination levels this helped out greatly. It’s displaced the more severe Delta.

I’m calling it, The pandemic is over if you are vaccinated. All indicators are looking good. I was concerned about BA2 but it doesn’t appear to be more severe. I think we’ll see a bump in cases in the winter but nothin worse than the regular flu. I imagine this will be the last Coronavirus thread. It’s been been a long strange ride. Great work everybody. I refrained from saying anything early on because I didn’t want to give aid and comfort to the covidiots.

But when I heard that omicron was super contagious but didn’t cause severe illness, virology says that it could likely be the bridge to herd immunity. And it looks like it is what will make SARS CoV 2 an endemic respiratory virus and not a pandemic crisis.

Now as you said, I’m not an expert. Nobody start licking doorknobs or kissing trumpists.

But there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

Don't forget, immunity is finite; measured in months, maybe a couple of years irrespective of how it is conferred. I'm still erring on the side of caution; these diseases don't disappear just because we tell ourselves they've gone.

I‘m expecting it to hang around like the regular flu does. The hospitalization numbers have dropped dramatically even with continuing high numbers. I think immunity along with improved treatments will make this a livable situation. When it becomes endemic it will be more predictable. I’ve always been a bit of a germ freak so I’ll continue to sanitize and be smart around people.

I hope you are right. Locally, the infection rate in my county was 14 yesterday, and a 7 day average of 2.9. One thing I will note is that new strains will pop up, and hopefully they won' t get really worse and more contagious, while getting through immunity (either vaccine or natural).
