Palestinian officials suspended planned peace talks after Israeli forces killed three people in a dawn raid Monday in the Qalandiya refugee camp outside of Ramallah, potentially dealing a new blow to the U.S.-led peace effort that resumed late last month. But U.S. officials insisted that negotiations had not been suspended. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency later said one of those killed, a 34-year-old father of four, was an employee who had been walking to work when he was shot in the chest. The agency condemned the killing.
Later Monday, the State Department discounted claims that Palestinian officials had suspended talks, saying both sides were still engaged in "serious and sustained" negotiations, Reuters reported.
The future of the talks had previously been questioned by Palestinian officials after Israel announced the building of new settlements on occupied territory at the start of the latest round of negotiations.
Israeli forces had entered the area looking for a suspect when hundreds of Palestinians poured into the streets and hurled firebombs, concrete blocks and rocks at them, according to Israeli border police spokesman Shai Hakimi.
Hakimi said officers used riot-control munitions, a term that usually refers to rubber bullets and tear gas, adding that police are investigating the incident.
An official at a hospital in Ramallah said, however, that the three victims had died from gunshot wounds

They are lucky they didn't use real bullets. What did you expect them to do when confronted with rocks, concrete blocks, and firebombs?

They might of used real bullets

The article also stated they used rubber bullets, which can be lethal. And some would call them gunshot wounds.

Yamas unit has entered the area to capture a suspect in terror activities.

The suspect apparently tried to hide himself and the capture took longer than expected - a crowd of locals gathered in the area and started throwing various objects, at the forces.
Yamas unit called for assistance from the external security ring (manned by soldiers and officers from an IDF artillery brigade), once these extra-forces got in, they where bombarded with rocks, and other objects.

At first the artillery brigade forces tried to use the nonlethal means they had at their disposal.
However, apparently at some point few of the soldiers felt a direct threat to their lives and decided to use live ammunition from which 3 Palestinians were killed.

Edit: According to yet unconfirmed reports 2 out of the 3 Palestinians killed in the incident, were released in the Gilad Shalit deal from Israeli prisons.

Cheers,
Fallen.

You do realize rubber bullets are non-lethal, and you do realize its very very rare to die from a rubber bullet.....

What are you complaining at here? That Israel went on to arrest a terrorist which have been making bombs in the past months on several occasions, or that the army had to shoot back at those who throw molotov cocktails and hauled huge building blocks at them from roof tops?

There was use of live fire in this incident as the force was under danger to its life. Of course other non-lethal (or less lethal because rubber bullets DO kill if used against regulations) were in use prior to the live ammunition, but it didn't help push back the mob.

The live ammo was warranted.

True, they did use live ammunition, but I don't see your point. You can clearly see in the video that the IDF force was in mortal peril, how can this be termed as anything other than "death by soldier"?

Molotov cocktails and stones. Ever been to Greece, or any other protest where this happens they dont shoot at with live rounds.

And how many died in the violent demonstrations in Greece ?
The use of live rounds is only when there is a threat to the life of yourself or other. In this case the force, even though already been in life threatening situation asked for authorization from the superior officer and got one, this is not something handed out easily. I've been in this situation numerous times and its not pleasant to say the least but if they got an authorization to use live rounds in order to get out of there one could only imagine how intense it must have been.

In Israel when a soldier is in mortal peril he is entitled to use any and all means at his disposal to save his, and his comrades', lives. If Greece does things differently, that's it's prerogative, but that doesn't change the fact that this is a morally sound directive.
Given the fact that those Palestinians assuredly knew of this directive, I once again reiterate my claim of this being a "death by soldier" incident.
