No, that would be the governmental system required to implement actual socialism that has done so (ie, Soviet Russia and China, mainly). Socialism is an economic system. The economic system isn't what made things crash and burn. What made things crash and burn is that to have government ownership of the means of production, one usually needs a violently authoritarian government able to seize said means of production.


That said.... the countries calling themselves "communist" are actually socialist in economy (actual communism is supposed to be a state of no government, though you might not know it), and the countries calling themselves "Democratic Socialist" really don't have much in common with socialists.....they just provide better subway service and health care. They most certainly do not own The means of production which, again, is the definition of "socialism". That is, the definition of socialism that is real, not the amorphous political curse word various persons on the right intend to use when they said the word.

I would say you are a little off base, the ones that want socialism want open borders and no countries at all. They are tech giants that see only customers not people. They want to value of labor to diminish so that there are only themselves and the mass underclass to serve them. they view people as a plague on the earth. They embrace climate change, control the narratives and media, and use government to oppress their critics. But most of their followers have no clue of their intent. they own intellectual property and consider real property mundane. Nobody is calling on an end to patent law to deal with wealth concentration.
