Isn't it about time that all Americans (both Democrats and Republicans) stand up for their country and defend what our forefathers built this country to be?

Let me first refresh everyone's memory about what our forefathers wanted:

1) they wanted a democracy where majority votes were the deciding factor
2) they built a system of checks and balances (judicial, legislative and executive branches) so that no 1 person or branch could take over the government
3) they wanted freedom of speech so that everyone could voice their opinion without being persecuted

We are now faced with a man that wants to "take over" our government, given that he has tried to put people in the judicial branch that are going to decide things in his favor. He has separated our country between the two parties in such a way that anyone in the Senate or the House needs to vote in his favor or lose re-election due to losing the base that supports Trump (no longer is right or wrong important but whether you keep your job or not). This is a man that had divided our country is such a way that he only helps and represents 1/3 of all Americans and the rest be damned. This is also a man that has tried repeatedly to silence Freedom of Speech, as he wants all media to simply rubber stamp what he does or he calls them Fake News and rabidly against him.

By taking Federal Workers hostage, he is working hard on trying to change the majority vote system that was put in place. He wants to force a "yes" vote on everything he wants and is willing to hurt innocent people to accomplish his goal.

In all of this, one important factor that our forefathers may not have put in the constitution but it is evident by what they wrote that this was one of their main objectives, and that is to be an ethical country with morals beyond reproach, where principles are at the top of the list and humanity rules. All of these 4 are being lost as Trump has none of these qualities.

When is the American public in the United States of America going to stand up and defend what our forefathers built, and repudiate those that do not have those guidelines in their agenda?

We are standing up. However, it's difficult to accomplish anything when the republicans still hold most of the power of the government and wear t-shirts claiming they would rather be russian than a democrat. How do you deal with folks like that? We stood up and took control of the house, next stop, the senate and white house in 2020. Should that happen, I think we'll see some progressive changes in our government.

I agree, but then again unfortunately nothing good ever happens in a fast way. The Democrats now control the House and that is the beginning but the Senate and the Presidency also need to be won by election and that is not a possibility until 2020, meaning that some patience and a lot of praying that no more damage occurs is required.

Your post sounds good but gives insufficient acknowledgement that the Founding Fathers wanted to make America a "great place to do business." Business has been bastardized to be interpreted as CORPORATE to our detriment. Corporate/Citizens United and CORPORATISM is the power in America. That's not the American Public. I will never stand up to support Corporatism/Fascism nor will most Americans.

I have faith in the direction of America. Progress is always about 2 steps forward and 1 step back. We've accomplished a lot of great things culturally in the past couple of decades. We were due for a backslide. It will be temporary, and we will learn from it. A good lesson to take away from this one: Too much progress too fast can leave large groups of people feeling marginalized. This doesn't make progress bad, but it is something to be aware of and sensitive to going forward, lest that marginalized group grow large enough to punish the rest of us by voting extremists into power just to show that they are still relevant.

Hallelujah brother, I am with you on this. Corporate greed where money is the only goal overshadows a land where business is conducted by all and the whole country benefits. This is now the land of the few (those with big money) using everyone else to fill their pockets. This is not Capitalism, but monopoly.

Our founding fathers had different views on how they wanted our system to operate. Some wanted more of a democracy and others preferred a much more restricted republic. Over time we have become a more democratic nation, but that is because the American people have demanded it. I do believe that Americans should be more engaged, but I wouldn't necessarily use the founding fathers as an example. They didn't stop slavery, create the labor movement, or fight for the equality of ALL people. The American people did those things, and we should absolutely continue to push for more fairness and less corruption in our country.

Then why do we have an Electoral College ?
