The Islamic State released a video Thursday purportedly showing its fighters firing antitank guided missiles at Turkish positions, possibly destroying what appears to be two self-propelled artillery pieces and a tank.

According to the video description, the attack occurred on the Turkey-Syria border. Once a conduit for foreign fighters, Turkey has since tried to limit the illegal traffic of people and equipment flowing into the region after facing pressure from the United States and other Western countries.

The missile fired in the footage is Russian-made Metis-M ATGM.

Whoever supports the ISIS is '' controversial'', but whose weapons the ISIS is using is obvious.

You realize that Russian weaponry in insanely common in both Syria and Iraq, right? ISIS has captured huge quantities of the stuff, as has the FSA.

Not to mention that "self propelled artillery pieces" aren't tanks.

We are not talking about a simple ak-47, this ATGM is not easy to find around. Such terrorists or others have no a Tank, so They had never such heavy weapons before, but now they have, coincidence?..No!

BTW, there are 3 artilleries and a tank allegedly destroyed by ISIS.

Still not the same thing. Tanks are much harder to destroy then self propelled guns.

The FSA has had these launchers since 2012, so.....

We are talking about ISIS using a hard-to-find an advanced Russian ATGM against Turkish artilleries and tank.

ISIS is using Russian-made advanced weapons, this is what needs to be questioned.

Turkey has been funding, arming, training and smuggling ISIS into Syria for years, so the story sounds like nonsense. Turkey and ISIS are allies.

If you say so, then ok.

In the footage ISIS is using an advanced Russian-made ATGM; You should remember that Russian airstrikes were mostly over non-ISIS ''targets''.

Could also just as easily be a Kornet system. Really hard to tell from that video.

Whether Kornet or Metis is irrelevant, ISIS has had both for a long time now.

And they're not just kinda finding this stuff "laying around", they're actively acquiring it by going to the places where they're likely to find it.

They've had such equipment since the capture of the Syrian Division 17 base near Raqqa and the Regiment 121 base outside of Al-Hasakah a year and a half ago.

They also acquired American military equipment including tanks, artillery, armored personnel carriers and weapon systems when they captured Ramadi and other bases in Iraq.

They've also captured heavy duty Iranian and Chinese materiel.

There is also, and has been for a long, long time, a very active global black market for military equipment if you've got the money to pay for it (and there have been periods of time when ISIS has had plenty).

What you're seeing in these videos shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone and certainly shouldn't serve as fodder for spurious and passive/aggressive allegations that Russia is supporting them.

The damn things aren't hard to find. They've been on the ground in Syria for more than three years. Stuff gets captured. Not to mention Russia isn't the only country which owns Metis-M launchers.

Everybody from Algeria to Indonesia to South Korea to Hungary to Ukraine uses these puppies. Hell, the Syrian Army owned more than a few.

I can tell you it was a Metis-M ATGM, i watched in slow motion.

The ISIS captured many weapons, however, I had never seen such an advanced weapon used by ISIS.

In Iraq market, or Syrian one I guess it is hard to find such an advanced ATGM.

No one can claim Russia backs ISIS; however any one can draw a conclusion after tracking some clues like Russian airstrikes were mostly over non-ISIS targets, or George Haswani ,Russian and Syrian citizen, is a middle man in trade between ISIS and Assad regime, and also this guy is in the black list of USA.
