ISIL is failing, in no small part because the US is bombing the crap out of them.
Not so long ago, their goal was to build a caliphate in the Middle East. They are utterly incapable of doing so, because they can't move anything bigger than a donkey cart without a bomb falling on their heads.
As a result, they have shifted to international terrorism. A strategy that not only usually fails, but is not going to convince the US to back off, and is not going to help them build an Islamist nation.
Meanwhile, the shooter today seems to have had no contact with any terrorist groups. Rather, he name-checked groups that have very different ideologies and are in some instances fighting each other -- e.g. ISIL, al-Nusra, Hezbollah.
I.e. the guy had no idea who he was saluting.
Can you?
Or do you genuinely believe that about 1 billion people on this planet want to destroy the United States, and the most effective way they can collectively do so is to attack a small office in California, and several months later a gay nightclub during Pride Month?
Or, they think that maybe it isn't such a great thing that a guy can walk into a nightclub with a military-grade weapon, shoot up the place, kill dozens of people, even while getting fired on by an off-duty cop. Anyway....

The FBI interviewed him. He didn't do anything illegal. He's an American citizen. He didn't have any ties to any terror groups, national or international. What were they supposed to do? Get a time machine? Set up a Precrime Unit?

Saying "there will be more terror attacks, at some point in the future" is about as valid -- and meaningless -- a prediction as "there will be more rain, at some point in the future." Terrorism is a tactic that gets lots of attention, and it will never go away. It also isn't affiliated with a specific religion or ideology (*COUGH* Tim McVeigh *COUGH*). More importantly, terrorism doesn't work. Israel won't disband because of terrorist attacks; France is not going to back down because there was a big terrorist attack; the US is not going to capitulate to ISIL because of the attack at Pulse;
Uh, no, it proves nothing of the sort.
Christians have spent centuries killing each other. Many of those wars involved England, who at various times fought the Scots, the Irish, the French, and the Spanish. The French were powerful warriors, who struck fear into their opponents. Germany often fought with the French, the Italians, the Russians, the Hungarians, and itself (30 Years War). It was routine for Italian city-states -- even the Pope! -- to hire mercenaries to attack each other, or foreign invaders.
And of course, it was the Europeans who for basically no reason whatsoever, decided to wage a series of wars to take control of Jerusalem; and a few centuries later, take over the Middle East, carve it up six ways to Sunday, and in several cases kept brutal dictators in power to ensure that the oil kept flowing.
Not long after that, the US invaded a sovereign nation based on the flimsiest of excuses, and wound up killing at least 150,000 civilians over the course of the war.
The reality is that throughout much of history, Muslims were and are no more or less violent than Christians. Christians spent far more time and effort fighting each other than they did fighting Muslims. But hey, why pay any attention to actual history, when you can just cherry-pick the few things that support your claims?
