ISIS assumed that people in the areas they took over would see their version of "the truth" and join them either willingly or through force. They believed that their ranks would swell and they did for a short time. The fact, however, is that most people do not want to live under an oppressive regime so they flee and they resist. ISIS will fail but, unfortunately, the ideology they embrace will continue for centuries.
