President Trump Directed His Attorney Michael Cohen To Lie To Congress About The Moscow Tower Project

President Donald Trump directed his longtime attorney Michael Cohen to lie to Congress about negotiations to build a Trump Tower in Moscow, according to two federal law enforcement officials involved in an investigation of the matter.

Trump also supported a plan, set up by Cohen, to visit Russia during the presidential campaign, in order to personally meet President Vladimir Putin and jump-start the tower negotiations. “Make it happen,” the sources said Trump told Cohen.

And even as Trump told the public he had no business deals with Russia, the sources said Trump and his children Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr. received regular, detailed updates about the real estate development from Cohen, whom they put in charge of the project.

Reporting done by renowned investigative journalist Jason Leopold informs us that Donald Trump personally instructed Cohen to lie to Congress. And this is not just a he said-he said situation. There is corroborating evidence that the SCO possesses that back up and confirm this to be the case. Trump sought to have Cohen suborn perjury in order to obscure his involvement with Russia.

According to Bill Barr, who will likely be the next AG, any effort by a President to suborn perjury is absolutely Obstruction of Justice, as stated in his confirmation hearing.

The special counsel’s office learned about Trump’s directive for Cohen to lie to Congress through interviews with multiple witnesses from the Trump Organization and internal company emails, text messages, and a cache of other documents. Cohen then acknowledged those instructions during his interviews with that office.

This is bad. Really, really bad for Trump and his children. It appears as if not only Trump Sr. has committed a High Crime and broken the oath of office, but his adult children are also in serious legal jeopardy as well.

So to all of you Trump supporters, do you care that Trump obstructed justice and ordered his personal attorney to lie to Congress? Is it starting to sink in yet just how much trouble Trump is in? Or how corrupt this man truly is to his core?

And on the heels of this report, the Democratic-led House via the Intelligence Committee and the Judiciary Committee are both launching investigations into this aspect of these revelations. With Mr. Cohen set to publicly testify February 7th, the stakes are as high as ever now for the Criminal-in-Chief.

I'd really wait on this one. This is going to be the test of whether Buzzfeed can regain some legitimacy or be forever flushed. Cormier, who appears to have a good reputation individually, and who stated that he was confident in his sources, also said he had not seen the supporting evidence (text messages, emails, etc.). Need extreme caution on this one.

Only the tip of the iceberg and it appears it is going to pierce the RMS Trump.

Time will tell. So far the president doesn't have a real good track record of the things he's denied.

Here’s the thing, yes it is really bad for Trump IF they can prove Cohen’s claims to be true. Remember this is Cohen who has already lied many times and Mueller is not going to go by Cohens comments alone. Now if Cohen has tapes of it that is another story but I’m thinking not. Right now this is Cohens word against trump and as much as I dispise Trump, Cohens word right now is **** without any evidence.

Time will tell. So far the president doesn't have a real good track record of the things he's denied.

Trump does indeed lie but to convict someone of this type of thing they are going to need more evidence than just Cohens comments.

Only the tip of the iceberg and it appears it is going to pierce the RMS Trump.

On its own this means nothing, they aren’t going to go by Cohens words alone as Cohen has also lied many times.

Not until the evidence is produced.

The media have been way too trigger happy to try and break bombshells, and it has led to many stories being embarrassingly retracted, so let's wait for confirmation.

But, if it is true, it's the beginning of the end.

True. But will they go with Cohen's recordings of phone calls?

That’s what I was saying about tapes. If there is something there from trump on the tapes directing Cohen to lie, then that is obstruction right there. IMO I don’t think those tapes exist. Time will tell of course.

They have multiple witnesses and emails, texts, documents.

If none of those emails, texts or documents are from trump himself directing Cohen to lie, they don’t have trump on obstruction. IMO I don’t think they have anything from trump. Do I personally believe Cohen on this? Yes. Will it stand up in court? Not on Cohens comments alone.

IF (a big if) then yes the house will have no choice but to impeach and the senate will have no choice but to convict. But a huge IF. Has any other source confirmed this news? I can’t find it.

If the alleged business relationship was legal and occurred during the campaign then how does that indicate Trump had violated his oath of office? I doubt that perjury (even if presented as obstruction of justice) alone will be the magic crime which gets a sitting POTUS impeached by the House and convicted by the Senate. Of course, only time will tell what Mueller comes up with, but if that (lying about a business deal being discussed during the campaign) is the most serious offense found I can't see it resulting in removal of Trump from office.

They have multiple witnesses and emails, texts, documents.

That is what the sources say. Cormier admitted on CNN that he has not seen the actual corroborating evidence. Buzzfeed is relying solely on human sources. They better hope these sources are legit.

Agreed, this is just the worst thing to be leaked, there is FAR, FAR more coming.

Trumps presidency will go down in history as this biggest, most, by far the worst corrupt administration of all time!!!

No one but trump could possibly fail as badly as anyone else, no matter what he does its historical.

Hell, no one else in history has managed bankrupt not one but four casinos...

You have to be the biggest, best, and most inept business manager in history to accomplish the incredible failures he has achieved.

****, he is a self proclaimed billionaire who can not get a loan in his own, or any other credible country in the world.

He is correct, no one else in history could accomplish the things he has...

I think that even if it is true and is demonstrated, that the Senate wouldn't convict. It's held by the Republicans. You'll need more than perjury to get a conviction.

Though if it is true and is demonstrated, it's going to give a big boost to all the investigations against Trump, and those may dig something up.

For a full third of the American people there is no evidence... no facts .... no reality in any way that will shake their belief in Trump. They are immune to any bad news about their idol and will resist it for all time.

I don’t agree. If it’s that bad, they will have no choice. Even republicans abandoned Nixon at the end. If there is clear and obvious evidence that trump committed a crime, no way in hell can the senate ignore that.

If things get bad enough regarding revelations about Trump’s criminality, the GOP will have no choice but to convict.

From the story:
Cohen lied to congress and the "project or trip never happened."

Cohen pleaded guilty in November to lying about the deal in testimony and in a two-page statement to the Senate and House intelligence committees.

The trip to St. Petersburg never took place and the plans to build Trump Tower Moscow never came to fruition.

The Republicans of today are not the Republicans of the 70's. It's far more a hyperpartisan, for the Party sort of thing now. I don't think you'll get a conviction with just perjury, they're going to have to find some more substantial crimes.

Not really, Nixon still had around a 25% approval rating when left office...

Yeah, I think they'll need more than this perjury and something worse as well that can be proven.

I don't trust the established Party Power Players to go against their party anymore if they can help it. So I think they'll need something far more substantial than perjury to be proven before they'd consider convicting him.

In the end, I think the likelihood of Trump being impeached and convicted are slim. We should be more focused on getting a competent competitor with a solid platform for him in 2020 and vote him out. Hopefully he'll have reopened the government by then.
