TBO.com | AP Wires=The nation's top special operations commander ordered military files about the Navy SEAL raid on Osama bin Laden's hideout to be purged from Defense Department computers and sent to the CIA, where they could be more easily shielded from ever being made public. The secret move, described briefly in a draft report by the Pentagon's inspector general, set off no alarms within the Obama administration even though it appears to have sidestepped federal rules and perhaps also the Freedom of Information Act. An acknowledgement by Adm. William McRaven of his actions was quietly removed from the final version of an inspector general's report published weeks ago. A spokesman for the admiral declined to comment. The CIA, noting that the bin Laden mission was overseen by then-CIA Director Leon Panetta before he became defense secretary, said that the SEALs were effectively assigned to work temporarily for the CIA, which has presidential authority to conduct covert operations.

Is this legal?
Why is something so public made secret?
The CIA briefed the movie people on the assassination, why not us?
Is this more open gov't promised by Obama?

It's not "so public" - it's a secret mission by the CIA using Navy Seals. Do you object to all state secrets regarding special operations? What about it do you not know and yet need to know?

You've been briefed, complete with photos and everything. Why do you need to know every single detail? Are you obsessed with the killing of OBL?

The gov't isn't keeping secrets so much as hiding information. As regards the movie, the movie people have to take the CIA's word for what they said happened. Now, the CIA wouldn't lie, distort and deceive to protect and project their "imagery," or would they? Now, we know they want to hide the truth, so make your own decision. I've been in the military and learned the military lies to you constantly and the CIA people we interacted with were the worst of the lot. By the way, the Chinese have all the photos of that secret helicopter and studied it up close and personal, so if you want any info on that, ask them! The Pakistani General Mahmoud of the ISI was a $50,000 paymaster for Mohammed Atta. Of course, you knew that because there are no secrets on 9-11 because that happened right here in the good ol' USA, eh? By the way, is that Gen. Mahmoud on any most wanted lists? My bad, he was probably just sending Atta money for gumballs.

Where are the photos you are talking about?? Last I checked we saw a building with evidence of a raid, but zero evidence (in photographs) of bin Laden being killed.

Bah, the only photo on google is fake.

Yes

Why is something so public made secret?
Because the full report contains classified details that the CIA doesn't want public in order to protect identities, and prevent the enemy from having access to information that will allow them to learn and adapt.

The CIA gave them the clean and approved addition that's fun for all ages.

I think Elvis and Osama are having a good laugh over a steaming cup of coffee in Vienna.

Very interesting link. Anytime the CIA is involved, we are only going to get smoke and vapors. Mass media manipulation? Who'd a thunk it?

The blatant decision to assure that no independent source would ever confirm it was Bin Ladin was obvious enough. Throw the body in the ocean before any independent source could take a DNA sample. And the unique order to assassinate him on the spot, even if capture possible. And then dispose of the body quickly so one can actually check if it was Bin Ladin.

Do you think there was a chance in hell if after the assassination hit they realized it wasn't Bin Ladin anyone in the intelligence or political structure ordering this would admit it? That the CIA would publicly say "oops?" Or Obama would go on TV and declare he had committed political suicide like Jimmy Carter's botched rescue in Iran? No chance whatsoever. ALL they could do is destroy the evidence (body) and hope the few witnesses keep quiet - including the Seal Team - unless of course somehow they go killed in combat or in accidents?

Of course, that doesn't mean Obama and staff didn't believe it was Bin Ladin. How could they know other than what they were told? Why would they not want it to be anyway?

The goals? Get out of Afghanistan. Re-elect Obama. How could they so easily do that with Bin Ladin on the loose. So kill him, declare "mission accomplished" - without using those words, declare Obama the man who killed Bin Ladin - and thus their pal re-elected too. Thus, it was "mission accomplished" - for which whether Bin Ladin was actually killed or not irrelevant. How convenient to the timing of wanting to leave Afghanistan? And to the election.

What is more disturbing is that the only actual living witnesses, the Seal Team, suddenly are being killed off in freak accidents and bizarre deaths after this. Were Seal Team members every so quickly killed off? Ever? Without them, no one, ever, can question it was Bin Ladin because no living person actually knows either way.

Maybe, a couple generations for now, people will know - but no longer care. No, N. Vietnam actually did not attack a US Destroyer. No, Spain did not sink the Maine. Yes, the Lusitania was carrying a massive amount of armaments... 3 wars - all based upon outright lies by the government. As just examples.

But decades later no one cares and no one pays for the lies even as great as taking us into wars with hundreds of thousands of casualties and tens of thousands killed at the cost of trillions of dollars lost (and hundreds of billions made by those who promoted and profited from the lies.)

I think they killed some old guy who looked like Bin Ladin because it obtained their goals. MAYBE they thought it was him. Maybe not. And, like all great lies in the past around war and politics, nearly everyone just believes because what they are told by the same people who clearly benefit from it say so.

No other reason to believe it all, is there other than Obama says the CIA says it was Obama and the Seal Team kept quiet - those alive anyway - and the record entirely put into the care of the CIA. Book never opened is closed.

Just my bit on the subject
The NIST produced a computer model that described the destruction of WTC7
and then when asked for the source data for this computer model, refused to make it public.

WE THE PEOPLE paid the $ to have that computer model made, so WE THE PEOPLE own it!

A! are we MAD AS HELL
yet?

Navy Seals don't have video cameras or high tech stuff like that. Didn't you know that? A couple old tube-type WWII walkie-talkies is all.

What's truly disgusting is that we do not know who we can believe, and we should be able to trust somebody who represents us. I honestly think they whacked OBL because of the hi tech gear involved in the snatch and go. One never really knows. Everything is wonderful, take your Valium, the Mass Media will comfort us with a comfortable reality. Yes, indeedy!
