Up to 24 weeks is during the second trimester and before viability.

Second trimester D & E is considered to be a safe and effective medical procedure. Although there are potential complications, they are less frequent than the complications of giving birth.

There were 323 abortions at or after 22 weeks.

131 were because the fetus was not viable.
