Is The US Really a Free Country?

I want to put this poll here. Is the US truly the free country that American politicans claim it is? Or is this simply a ruse used by politicans to talk good game while in reality the US is not a free country at all?

A little from Column A, and a little from Column B. We should realize, though, that a "free country" is an oxymoron, in that true "freedom" would be anarchy, which would mean no country. The question should be, is this country as free as it can be, or as free as it is purported to be? Or is it lacking in even those freedoms we are supposed to have?

This country is freer than most, not as free as it's supposed to be.

True freedom does not equal anarchy, since anarchy leads inevitably to the coalesence of gangs, the rise of warlords, and the demise of freedom as the strongest arise to rule the weaker by force.

True freedom comes with limited government. We don't have that anymore.

Families of two can't live in an orderly society without an authoritarian figure, let alone mobs. What you describe has no basis in history or reality.

Except for all those anarchic societies and civilizations that have existed, until governments came in and destroyed them you mean?

the biggest cause of functioning anarchic failures, is government.

So really the best arguement about NOT having government, is government will NOT have anarchy existing anywhere near it, or someone will insitutute a government by force.

Governments will impose themselves upon anarchic societies, or some group will impose themselves as government on anarchic societies. it is kind of odd isn't it?

Maybe you can't live as a free human being, and need to be controlled, that's not true for all of us.

Really? so why are nearly all governments the result of war? Isn't war the domination of the strong over the weak?

The purpose of government is for the governors to control the governed. The Rulers to Control the ruled.

GOOD government will attempt to prevent abuse of persons by other persons, even those in the government as victimizers, but not really.

There is a reason we live in a Constitutional Republic with Strong Democratic Traditions, is that should the consitution be violated significantly or the democratic traditions abandoned, there is impetus for change of government. Since of course, the Constitution can not defened itself, when it suffers rapine at the hands of rules, the ruled have the idea necessary for redress, change, or revolt.

If government protects anything, it is the governors first. It may often have to protect itself, by capitulating to popular demand, as there are ALWAYS more people ruled, than there are ruling, and that is a major consideration the governors take into account.
