Now let's be honest, farmers do have a higher rate of suicide than many other segments of society.

So it seems that farming can be very depressing, and not really all that profitable. These seem to be contributors to the high suicide rate among farmers.

But not according to the lead psychologist in America, Dr. Donald Trump.

No, these farmers were depressed and killing themselves because they were borrowing money to pay estate taxes!

Wow, did not know that...

..probably because it's a big ****ing lie.

I can not believe Trump is lying again. He so rarely does it!

I guess what will really solve this crisis of depression and suicide is Trump's tariffs, which will make farming even less profitable.

We need a much bigger estate tax in this country.
I disagree. Why are we taxing people for passing on their property to their children? To me it should be one tax that is completely eliminated. They already pay yearly property taxes to their state, why tax them for simply retaining the land they were probably born on?

The majority of farms are still family farms, but corporations are increasingly taking over. They buy for investment purposes and can run the farms for less money, driving down prices. Farming has always been tough and corporations are making it tougher. Estate taxes are part of the problem but it's much more complicated than that.

Spending 12 hours a day going back and forth and in circles, towing something behind a tractor, is about the most depressing way to make a living. No amount of satellite radio can keep your mind from going down strange paths.
Farmers are like welders, they're all philosophers, because what they do is boring repetition that doesn't occupy their minds so they think about everything, all day.

The retiree generations hold about two-thirds of the nation's wealth (north of $100 trillion). Yet young struggling families are engaged in ongoing wealth transfers to those generations--to the point that we're actually slashing nutritional aid to children, education, health care services, and all manner of investments in the future--to keep that transfer going. I'd rather see some of those generations' wealth recouped and used to support themselves instead of continuing to pull the ladder up.

My wife comes from a large extended family many of them Farmers in ID, WA and CA. I know a bit about this subject. If you spent your life working on a farm by the time you're 65 your body is broken because of all the hard labor, pesticides, noise from the tractors/farm equipment, and industrial accidents. On top of that if your kids have any brains they will become doctors, accountants, and engineers. They will not want to go into farming because they know first-hand what you went though. Your kids want you to relax and take it easy but all you know is working 365 days a year on farm. Your kids don't even want your farm. It should be no surprise that the suicide rate is so high. There's no exit strategy.. your body is broken and you die working.

Trump? Lie?

What. Did he open his mouth again?
