I noticed that some of the Treyvon Martin supporters keep bringing up the fact he was a kid and I know some people think it does matter that an assailant was a minor. So I thought I would ask the following question- Is the age of a dead burglar, assailant, bank robber, attempted rapist/murder relevant? For example if a burglar is killed inside someone's home should the homeowner be in legal trouble if that burglar is a minor? If a bank robber is killed while trying to rob a bank and that bank robber is a minor should that concerned citizen or security guard be in legal trouble?

It was relevant in this case because the media manipulated the public into believing Trayvon was just a "little boy" skipping home with his little bag of candy as opposed to a full grown young man sauntering home after smoking a big spleef.

When you are trying to protect yourself or your family age should have no relevance. When it comes to the law (sentences) I believe a line should exist and a minor should never be tried as an adult as I view doing so as a double standard.

Old enough to do the crime, old enough to except the consequences.

spleef... haven't heard that in a while.:pimpdaddy:

Amazingly enough, with the help of MSM, many still think he was a 'little' boy.

The age shouldn't matter, but the fact that TM hasn't been deemed as any of these things in a court of law should. TM is innocent until proven guilty of assault I'm afraid. It's very difficult to justify lethal force when the courts only adjudicate on the innocence of the survivors.

That's what happens when witnesses support the other guy's story. And when investigative officers believe it.

I hate the notion of trying as a minor or as an adult. You do the crime, you do the EQUAL time of anybody else.

I agree because there is a difference between a minor and an adult, hence the terms "minor" and "adult." Minors are capable of rehabilitation because their minds are still young and pliable and shouldn't be charged as adults for that reason IMO. Also, minors are expected to be more easily manipulated than adults, another crucial difference that should be taken into consideration when sentencing a minor.

I still believe they should be punished of course, but just differently than an adult who is expected to have higher critical thinking skills.

The media was totally dishonest in their representation of Trayvon, purposefully leaving details about him out of the public eye, portraying him as if he was much younger than he actually was by showing years' old pictures of him.

Age is a fickle thing because at a split moment - you can only judge based on appearance. If they're armed or otherwise violent, that's the last thing on your mind. With the way some people are going on - you practically have to card a criminal before you respond. LOL

Martin was 17 - almost a legal adult, and old enough to consent to a sexual relationship. He was not a kid - as that, to me, - denotes a pre-teen individual (younger than 13). He was a teenager.

In Little Rock (in Arkansas - my state): a 27 year old male was shot the other day after he stole a car / fled from the police / pulled out a weapon. People protested for a while and some were on TV referring to him as "a kid." With sentiments such as "they need to stop harassing our kids." :doh These are band-wagon jumpers, and total morons. They only knew a black person was shot by a police officer in their neighborhood and automatically assumed all the wrong things - and looked foolish in the end.

Well, if you're familiar with my posts on the subject of children, I think they should be considered and treated as adults when they are 18. Some will say that's arbitrary, but it's really a generally acceptable age of adulthood IMO. And even that might be kind of young when considering current scientific knowledge about the differences in the brains of teens and adults.

Weakest spleef in the history of man, by the toxicology report.

LONG after, by the science.

I don't think that was her point. Her point was how the media portrayed him as more child-like than what he actually was in reality. He was almost an adult and not at all child-like in appearance at least.

Yes and no... I mean sure nobody wants to shoot a little kid, if they have any heart at all... BUT. There have been cases of some really vicious young gangers, under 13 even, who have committed various crimes including murder, often at the behest of older gang members.

If a 10yo points a gun at you and acts like they really will use it.... you do what you feel you have to do.

Absolutely
I disagree. The mental capabilities of a child are not equal to that of an adult.

I agree with that. If anyone is threatening your life, you should be able to defend yourself against that person, regardless of their age or gender.

But, of course, the backlash is to paint him out to be a wanton baby-killing thug who, if Zimmerman hadn't stalked him down and killt him, he was going to destroy vast swaths of humanity all on his own.

It doesn't matter if he enjoyed smoking pot or got suspended or took a selfie flipping the bird. He wasn't doing anything wrong when Zimmerman decided that he looked like a criminal and decided to stalk him against police advise and against Neighborhood Watch practices. Now he's dead. And apparently a lot of people think it's okay to shoot people who aren't perfect little saints.

Do shankings come before naptime or after juice boxes?

The responsibilities of an adult but not the rights always seemed like a bunch of crap to me.

FFGuy is right.

At any rate, I think it should be pointed out--for the millionth time--that Zimmerman was not acquiited because it had been proved that Martin was in the wrong. There is no proof that Martin did anything wrong. Zimmerman was acquitted because it could not be proven that his claim about fearing for his life was false.

that's it.

why so many people assume that Martin was a Bad Guy is anybody's guess....but it's not based on what they know, that's for sure.

I'm with you.

If you have the legal responsibilities of an adult...why then, you should have the rights and priveleges of an adult as well.
